Title: IDE-Fix Express software installation?
Post by: x56h34 on November 10, 2005, 03:22:38 PM
I've just installed IDE-Fix + Express add-on to my A1200T system and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how do you get the "Express" mode running? I've jumpered the express adapter itself to allow for fast transfers on both IDE channels, however what exactly do I need to use (software wise) in order to turn on faster speed?

I didn't want to use the installation script from the IDE-Fix floppy as it overwrites some current files in your SYS: directory (such as SetPatch for example) with older versions, so all I've done at this point was copy the IDEFix to C: and that's it.

My hard drive and CD drive are both recognized fine by OS3.9 (master and slave on the primary channel), and the only thing left to do now is to enable the faster, express speed.

How do I do that? :-)

Thanks.

I don`t think you need to do anything to enable "Express mode", but at least there is a tool to test if the connection is alright.

Copy the Diag tool from the C drawer on the install disk to C: or WBStartup, and it will tell you if the connection is alright.

Just looked at the install disk for IDEfix EXPRESS. There is also a file in C called SpeedUP, maybe that will do something for you. Good luck with it.

BTW, does your tower HD activity led always stay lit when using IDE-Fix Express?

For some reason, mine is always lit from the moment I turn on power (red colour, Elbox Power Tower 1200). :-?

@x56h34

Sorry, can`t remember, has been a long time since I used the tower. Only remembering fiddling with the DiagExpress tool mentioned before.

@anyone who can help me

 So, what message do you get from DiagExpress when you have jumpered the express adapter? It just quits or it displays something?
 I'm beginning to believe that i got a defective express adaptor!: :madashell:

Ok, just to let you know..:
 There is nothing defective except of myself... :oops: I figured out what i was doing wrong. I was placing the jumpers horizontally, instead of vertically. It's hard for me to describe it, but because the 2 jumpers are very close to each other, it's possible to place them either-way.
 Sorry for disturbing. :-)
