I have build a MIDI interface and want to test if it is working. I have connected a cable from the MIDI out of my keyboard to the input of the MID interface and connected the interface to my serial port. What is the quickest way to check if it is working? I can't figure out how to do it in Octamed!

Hi,
Try MidiPlay (http://main.aminet.net/package.php?package=mus/midi/midiplay265b.lha) or some of the other MIDI file players in Aminet's "mus/midi (http://main.aminet.net/search.php?path=mus/midi)" directory.
Or, to test the input functions, grab Bars And Pipes (http://www.amigau.com/c-music/barsandpipes.htm).

Within OctaMED, you need to make sure of several things
1) that midi is enabled in the midi menu (v6+)
2) that you have an instrument set up to play on a MIDI channel. Channel 10 is a good start if your kit is GM capable, you can usually hear percussion a mile off
3) that the instrument volume is not zero
4) the instrument may require increasing the transposition, the midi note numbers tend to start at a much lower octave
Then try tickling your amiga keyboard (as you would to play a sampled instrument) and see if your MIDI device makes a sound
Hope this helps...
