Title: Kickstart and Workbench env variables ?
Post by: Elwood on March 31, 2003, 09:20:12 AM
Hi all,

Are they some people out there that uses those 2 env variables set in the startup-sequence ?
Kickstart and Workbench are there since a very long time and I never used them.

Do you ?

Thanks.

Well, scripts and the like may use them to check  required version data.
AFAIR, rust running the version command sets up these variables in the current console. The startup-sequence copies them into the global environment variable pool.

Yes, "may" !
That's why I'm asking, is there anyone that know of a script/program that uses those variables ??
So that I can remove them, safely....

Practicaly every single installer script will use those env vars to dedtermine if your system is upto running the program to be installed ....or even in some cases determine how the instaler sets it self up.
