Title: Pirates
Post by: on November 08, 2005, 11:13:20 AM
Just a random quesiton

Do pirates still exist. No, not internet and software pirates    but pirates in ships that blow up merchant ships out at sea and steal their cargo. Obviously, they'd have to have better ships and weapons now. Gotta love the eyepatches!

Yes they still exist near "Failed / Lawless States" or country with rampant corruption.
Usually the pirates pay bribes to local Police or Navy officers.
Modern ships need only small number of sailors, therefore prone to pirate attacks.
For modern pirates, it's more profitable to take hostages and ask for huge ransom from the owner.

they've recently attacked a cruiser sailing in somalian waters. they were repelled. I wouldn't like to be in that ship. (looks like a hopeless attack though)
