Title: trgse: fix your ports!
Post by: Piru on March 30, 2003, 11:09:32 PM
@trgse:

Your ports (http://hem.fyristorg.com/TRG/index.html) have a broken anti-MorphOS code.

Your code is:
Quote

if (OpenResource("MORPHOS"))
{
  printf("fucking pirates!!!\n");
  exit(1);
}

...but there is no such resource in MorphOS.

To fix, use the following code:
Quote

if (FindResident("MorphOS"))
{
  printf("fucking pirates!!!\n");
  exit(1);
}

Yes, this is somewhat sarcastic "bugreport" to point out some childish and outright stupid actions by some "amiga developers".

This is not the way:

a) Setting up artificial limits and thus limiting the possible userbase of a program is not very smart.

b) The program you ported is GPL. Anyone can request the source code from you and remove your anti-MOS code.

PS. Also your home page javascript to detect MorphOS:
Quote
if (navigator.appVersion.indexOf("Morph") != -1) {document.writeln("MorphOS - Piratez paradize, You are not allowed to run my programs");}
...doesn't work. Fix that too!

Waiting for a bugfix,
 - Piru

Anti-MOS code? What a childish thing to do. Focus your
creative powers on something more productive, perhaps?

Umm, bug report?

"Code not working, as it was (clearly) meant to"

Update.

Jan-Erik Karlsson's home page is no longer operational (http://hem.fyristorg.com/TRG/index.html). "Due to the unaouthorized hacking of this site, it has been removed."

Hey, I did NOT ask you to hack his site. Grow up whoever did that! :-(

Not that I'm blaming you or anything, but what did you expect?  some "crusader" was sooner or later going to exact retribution...

Whoever hacked the site: well done, that was the adult thing to do [/sarcasm]

The site is still there for me. Did I miss something? And what's all this hacked site stuff.. are websites so weak in security that they get hacked all the time or what?

*yawn*

May I say, I expected something like that to happen sooner or later?

No, that's not entirely true. I expected accusations that someone cries out that some developer intentionally modified his/her code in order not to work, or work erroneusly on OS4/MorphOS. I expected, that there will be noone ATM to tell, if the accusations right or wrong, and knowing the truth only years after.

But this is just plain childish.

(For those not knowing, and not on beta mailing lists: there are many problems with imperfect code, which breaks the standards laid down in the docs, yet for some reason works on the classic machines and not on MorphOS. There is not only one case where it was claimed that MorphOS is *censored* because a code won't work on it, then turned out that there was a serious bug in the code, which for some odd reason left unnoticed on the classics. Some pop up on MOS because of the hardware differences, different addresses, etc., but there are some which cleanly show that the MorphOS  code is different, yet strict to the (auto)docs). That's why I have (as time passed by) became convinced that no original sources were used, but that is just IMO, based on some experiences.

I was just amazed when I heard how easily Piru finds those errors, and always turn to be right. And there are just a few cases when MorphOS is to blame, and not the coder has to fix his buggy code. He must have some divine abilities.

Re: the closure of the site.

Anyone can sulk and claim their site was hacked, and considering how childish this guy is in the first place, I wouldn't put it past him.

People need to GROW UP all round, they really do.

The site is gone now, just a redirect to os.Amiga.com. Apparently he's taken his toys and gone home. I remember something a while back ago off of Aminet I tried under UAE did something similar, printing "Next time use the real thing!" and halting. What's with the hostility from the coders?

Well, I don't know what site you are going to but this one... http://hem.fyristorg.com/TRG/index.html (http://hem.fyristorg.com/TRG/index.html) .. is still operational.

It's a Javascript redirect to os.amiga.com, sure you're not just browsing from a cached copy?

This is a silly thread.  His javascript thinks my browser is running on OS4!  Yeah!  MorphOS + Ibrowse == OS4!

(Disclaimer: I didn't say that)

Yes, but the 'pay peanuts, get monkeys' principle applies.

@KennyR

I would patch it, but it's too much fun trying to convince folks that I'm really using OS4, "See? My browser reports to your server it's OS4!"
