Hi all,
i have embarked on a project to adapt a csa derringer 030/50 to the A600,its a big board but i think i can make it fit.If not its a good experiment. Why you ask? because i have it :)
I am using a upside down plcc socket on the A600's 68000 chip and running a short ribbon cable to a dip style 68000 socket, the csa will plug into this, its a temporary adapter to see if it will work.If so i will desolder the csa's pins and add ribbon there and see if i can make this all fit(HA!)
I think the csa maps ram outside the zorro space,so i am hoping it will allow the 600's pcmcia work.
I have the 68000 socket pinouts for both, and thats not a problem, but i need to know how to switch the 600's onboard chip out/disable it so the csa will run.or is this even necessary? i assume theres a pin on the plcc 68000 that must be put high or low?
anyone of you hardware hackers out there have any ideas?

I hope you dont ruin that Derringer..as they are rare.
Why not just upgrade the A500?

Interetsing but you have to keep in mind that there is very few room in the A600 for any hack. Even the regular Apollo boards for A600 run extremly hot without cooling hacks and tend to be unstable.
How do you plan to fit the Derringer in the case (with or without HD/floppy)?

leirbag28,
I wont hurt the derringer, its a pin for pin hack pretty much.I recieved this card dead originally from a guy and then repaired it.
we know it works in the A500 already, thats no fun ;) Besides, the A500 has no pcmcia, which is the main reason for doing it in a 600.

If you've got the sockets wired, I'd try a plain 68000 in the socket first. Gonna put it in a tower?

Xanxi,
Its just an experiment. The board appears to fit ,but its tight and i can't be sure until i desolder the pins(calm down,i wont hurt the CSA!).if i had to add a fan and or heatsinks, thats fine. i have to prove it works first.
it will just clear the floppy ,and the hd will have to be relocated, probably to the trap door,or i may just use the CF/ide adapter and run a CF for a hard drive.
If i can see it run or not run,and then it will not fit,i will restore the csa like it was.

If it doesn't work, you could at least throw a 68010 into the DIP socket That'll give you a teeny speed boost, and I think WHDLoad will function slightly better thanks to the presence of a VBR.

@mechy
hmmm, you seem to be good with electronics......
Would you ever dare take on the taske of making a passthrough adaptor for the CD32 that will enable the SX32 and the Full Motion Video card to fit at once internally???
If yes..lets talk buddy! :-) I would trade equipment for this...or cash!
