Title: PPC info needed, newbee question
Post by: roguebeck on November 05, 2005, 01:45:01 AM
Can someone point me to a URL describing what a PPC card does? If someone wants to explain it that's fine too. I see posts all the time on here and I wasn't sure if it accelerates the amiga or runs indepandantly like it's own computer.

Does it make the Amiga faster or just enable you to run other software on it? I've read about a few of them on www.amiga-hardware.com, but I'm still a bit fuzzy on the details.

Thanks.

Not being a real hardware guru I will post what little I have noted with my A4000D and my Cyberstorm PPC/060 card. Basically I find that anything with real number crunching needs is accelerated very much so. I tried some things with Vistapro, doing fractal landscapes and it was so fast I had to check it a couple of times to be sure I had done it right. Almost instantly! It is a real fine accelerator and comes with a fair amount of ram on it as well. I had had two of them and when school taxes came due I had to sell one and I wish I had just gone to the bank and borrowed the money and kept the CS. There are progs which need the PPC to run and I gather that in the case of the CS board having two processors allows you some flexibility if a program needs the PPC or prefers the '060. Now having said all that somebody who relaly knows the thing better can correct anything I said that wasn't true...8-) (But it sure crunches them numbers fast)
