Title: 128 meg Ram for Blizzard PPC
Post by: bludger on November 04, 2005, 07:19:24 AM
What are the recommendations for ram sticks in a Phase 5 Blizzard PPC 603e in a desktop 1200?

Effy seems to like HP sticks, but what about Golden Ram, or Kingston KTH4891/128, both at 60 ns of course?

Good question. I do seem to like HP´s but have also sold Kingston´s as they are just as good. Haven´t heard about Golden ram yet. Thought Samsung had those modules too but I´m not sure ...

Finding such modules for your BPPC is sometimes easier than getting them to work. The main thing is to give your Amiga enough juice as such modules drain a bit more power than 16 Mb modules. So far I have sold more than 40 modules and three times I had a question that both modules together don´t work but every module seems to work perfectly when only one was fitted. That means there´s nothing wrong with the modules but that the BPPC can not get enough power from the motherboard ... just try not to use the standard 15 W A1200 powersupply

Thanks Effy, I'm running a 430 watt AT PSU, so I don't expect power to be an issue.
I just don't want to buy ram and have it not work!

If you have such enough power than you don´t have to expect any problems. Just make sure you don´t buy 128 Mb modules meant for HP servers model 9000. Those were my first ones and I fried my BPPC and the motherboard with them. Since then I have used other modules

Any idea what the model number for the board killers is?

I'm looking at these (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Four-128MB-72-pin-Simms-60ns-FP-with-parity-HP-D4893A_W0QQitemZ6816273317QQcategoryZ1481QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). I don't want 4, and he's got the Kingston and Golden Ram in sets of 2.

@buldger

I have bought memory modules from this guy, and it was a smooth transaction both times. I have bought both HP and Kingston modules from him, and the Kingston were the best, as these had thin memory simms, and therefore didn't clatch with the heatsink holder.

Hi:
any ideas where to get a 220V >300W power supply for an amiga4000 desktop?
Best Regards

Rod

Is it possible that some hangs on the PPC might occur because of memory simms not being compatable?

Bludger : make sure you know how much the shipping costs are. I got some modules in the past from the USA with 52 USD shipping costs and there was no way to discuss it ... so make sure you don´´t pay more to shipping than to the object itself !!!

Those are the correct simms HP4893A 128MB ea.  I have one working fine on a Phase 5 Blizzard MkIV scsi board.  The simms you should stay away from I believe are for the HP 9000 series printers.  iirc those are the type Effy had a bad time with.

An excellent point Effy. I've just sent a message to the seller for a quote.
