I was wondering if it is possible to run a newer OS on my old A1200 as I am running 3.0 just now.
Thanks! Justin
(cool to be here :p)

Hi you can install 3.5 or 3.9 on your A1200 but you will need some fast ram, a CDROM drive, and 3.1 ROMs.

Could you tell me where I can get the hardware? :-P
Thanks

You can buy from Amigakit (http://www.amigakit.com) or of course from Ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk). For example you could buy this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Amiga-1200-Typhoon-030-accelerator-SCSI-24Mb-RAM_W0QQitemZ8229286555QQcategoryZ98928QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), and add an external SCSI CDROM, and these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Amiga-1200-Kickstart-ROM-3-1-40-68-warranty_W0QQitemZ8229461489QQcategoryZ98928QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) 3.1 ROMs.

@bawsack:
What do you currently have in your A1200 in terms of additional hardware? Anything? Or just a hard drive and the stock 2Mb fast / 2Mb chip RAM?

I currently have OS 3.0, with an external hard drive, something in the region of 500MB. I think I have 2MB fast RAM and 8MB other memory, apart from that am not too sure!!

CDROM is not absolutely neccesery for installing OS3.9 but it might be for updates (boingbags).
I'd reccomend Vesalia for buying KS3.1 ROMs

Thanks very much for your kind help, I have looked at AmigaKit and I think I'll invest into a new 1200 with everything included. which will be easier :P :D
