Title: FS: Ultra Rare Phoenix MoBo with 68030 , 2+4MB, and much more !!
Post by: McTrinsic on October 28, 2005, 08:03:40 PM
Hi all,

I have to part with some incredibly rare (and expensive) items. It is a fully loaded Phoenix motherboard with lots of extras. See here:

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8712795553&sspagename=ADME:B:AAQ:DE:1

Its a replacement Motherboard for the A1000 with 2MB Chip, SCSI (plus Hack for improved performance), all custom-chips, the Medusa 2.0 Emulator, a Clockport-Adaptor for two Clockports (get USB and a soundcard in your amiga with this!), and a 2301 Genlock.

Additionally, you get the extremely rare 68030 accelerator made specifically for the Phoenix!

It will ba a sad day for me when I have to send it away.

Thanks,
McTrinsic

Oops!  I just started a thread on this, we must have been typing at the same time.

I have a large Amiga collection, would you consider a trade for the items you are auctioning?  A4000D?  A3000D? Graphics Cards?  Accellerators?

Unfortunately, not.

Thanks for asking, though.

I am in need of a new PC for work. I have taken up a new job as teacher and have to prepare lots of papers, make classworks, etc.

My old PC is rarely enough for surfing.

It is one of the sad days when I realized I just don't use these things anymore. I have two kids to spare time with. So I made the logical albeit harsh decision to sell this.

There better be no one around when I ship this...

*sigh*

What do you want for it?

McTrinsic, you are a rich man :-) I foresee this auction will again end with a crazy amount of money.
If it was me, i would never sell such a piece of hardware, and take it with me in my grave to still enjoy it in my next life (if there is one) :-p

Nice machine.... but the spec is really only about equivalent to an A2000 with an A2630/4Mb, MegaChip and a 3.1 rom. But does it have Z2 slots and can it take a Video Toaster?  An A2000 so spec'd would probably fetch $150-200 on eBay.  Maybe this is worth more to a collector somewhere.

Well you are right when you compare it directly on the other hand: a Winner 630 will fetch way more then an M-Tec 1230, an A3630 is even nearly completly worthless in compareson, though they deliver about the same power.

The accelerator is specifically made for the the phönix and was designed only a few months ago. A very limited number was made.

My forecast would be something around 400 EUR.
Got about the same setup still unassembeld, will nerver sell it ;-)

@gdanko

Well... Money ?? ;)

I am aware of the value of this stuff, so I put a certain reserve that will cover most costs.

I am hoping it will go further, though.

@Xanxi

I would gladly believe you that this auction will go high, but lets first see what happens. It isn't over yet.

And even if it will, I will have to invest the money for a new computer. So no, I will not be a rich man.

And know what? In the grave you cant use it anyway (nor could I ;) ). My life is now, and I have a wonderful family to spend time with. That helps to part with something like this.

@Argus

Well, yes it does have a Z2-Slot, and a Video Slot. You can get more Z2-Slots with a busboard for the side expansion slot. You can add one more expansion via the front expansion slot , where the A1000 takes the mem expansion.

But heck, this is a collector's item that boosts your A1000. If the A1000 is just a heap of electronics to you indeed do not understand what makes this thing precious. If you continue what you wrote earlier, the similarily specced A2000 is way overpriced, too, because an A1200 might be brought much cheaper to a a similar spec.

This is one of less than 1000 made special motherboards that embody the spirit of the Amiga. They were a not-commodore-clone made by hardwarefreaks. It was pre-funded by pre-orders from Amiga-fans. It fits inthe Amiga case that made the world's jaw drop, so to say. it even has a special poem written on it.

This thing is all and represents all that is not rational. And for that, I love this thing.

@McTrinsic

I know this is specialty hardware; if I had extra $$$ I'd probably buy it myself.  I just can't justify the expense right now, not for an 030; not when I have a couple A2000s similarly kitted out.  I have thought about modding up an old A1000 someday, sticking a rom adaptor, an A500-style 68030 card with fastram like the Derringer, and a harddrive.  I have just about everything but the A1000 m/b.  Maybe someday...  Good luck with the auction :)

@Lemmink

I personally find enhancements to the original desktop A600 & A1200 machines the way to go for pure hacking enjoyment.

the point is that its an A1000!!!

You know, some ppl don't understand this, in as much as "why drive a 1960s Jaguar when you can buy a nice new Toyota?" "Why would I want a 20 year old Amiga when I can get a characterless PC?" etc...

If you don't get it, then you don't 'get it'...

Yes, an A1000, is the machine that started a phenomenom that for most of us that visit A.org has not ended.  This Phoenix MoBo and limited edition accellerator are special, extremely rare hardware for a historical computer.  It is a collector's item, not a practical, performance decision.  I would like to have the Phoenix and it's accelerator just for those reasons.  Not because I want a bit faster A1000 to use.  I have plenty of faster or more capable Amigas but this Phoenix w/accellerator is valuable for reasons beyond performance and extra capabilities.

I would trade anytime my 68030 A2000 for this A1000  :-D

Heh I should have taken that into the auction's description.

;)

Have fun,
