Title: video card svhs-out feature...
Post by: peroxidechicken on October 27, 2005, 09:08:37 PM
If a video card has hardware mpeg decoding and a svhs-out, does that necessarily mean it will supply audio along with video when connected to a tv or vcr?

No.  SVideo has 4 pins:  Luminance out, Luminance ground, chromanence out, chromanance ground.  The audio comes on a separate plug.

You'd usually take the audio from the sound card's line out. You'll probably need lead to convert a 3.5mm stereo jack to two RCA phono jacks and then you'll be sorted.

Had no idea!  All this time I've been thinking the svhs connector was an all-in-one affair.  Thanks for setting me straight.

svhs is a type of vcr
s-video is a video connection/standard
