Hi All,
Im looking at getting a 200MHz Blizzard PPC (quite cheap) but the only downside is that an 040 is attached and having experienced an 060 at 66MHz I dont want to go back, also context switching will be much better.
What I would like to know is how easy would it be to swop out the 040 for my 060 chip? And where can I get hold of the appropriate 66MHz crystal? I believe they take 8 pin DILs?
Thanks,
AmiBoy

Someone did this recently. Theere was a thread about it on here IIRC, do a search.
If it wasn't here, it was on one of the Yahoo mailing lists, perhaps Amiga-hacks...

If you have the skills to desolder the 040 CPU, then you should be able to do the conversion rather easy. It's just a matter of moving 1 jumper and a voltage regulator on the board, besides exchanging the CPU.
Dunno where you can get the oscillator from, I have only managed to find 64 MHz ones, but haven't looked that hard.

Hi doc,
The 040's are soldered? I thought they were socketed.
If they are socketed then I dont have the necessary skills to unsolder a CPU and resolder a new one.
Is the voltage resultor a 'jumper' or a switch or something else to unsolder/solder
Thanks,
Amiboy

You can be lucky to find a board with a socketed 68k CPU, but most have the CPUs soldered directly to the PCB. The voltage regulator and the jumper is also soldered to the PCB, so it's another thing to unsolder/solder to use your terms.

@AmiBoy
Every BPPC I've seen has the 68k CPU soldered directly to the board.

They're tiny resistors to unsolder/solder.
BPPC Overclocking site (http://www.zap.to/ppcoverclock) has pictures of the resistors and stuff.

see this picture (http://www.amiga.org/gallery/index.php?n=1157) for a recent conversion.
