Title: Getting online with genisis + mediator
Post by: jimmyboy on October 23, 2005, 06:24:04 AM
Ive been trying to get my miggy on the net/lan. I have researched and found next to nothing  :boohoo: which will help me in my conquest. Heres what ive got:

Mediator 1200 LT4
Ethernet card with 8139 chipset
Mediator cd and the latest update
Router
OS3.9

The ethernet card is installed into the bottom slot of the mediator board (4th down).Ive installed the mediator cd (you need it for the 8139 chipset so ive read). Fired up Genisis and manually entered the ip address for each bit (static). Allowed the ip on the router.

Now everytime when i try to connect it says

"iface_init: could not open MediatorNET.device unit 0"

I get the same output for each of the 4 .device drivers except 1. With appp.device I get

"sana2 online could not put appp.device 0 online
S2_CONFIGINTERFACE: resource allacation failure
mediator is now online"

Can anyone tell me whats wrong? Am i close?   :-?  :-?  :-?

Well, since you are using a 100 MBit ethernet card, you will not get it to work before you have a graphics card installed, as the ethernet card uses the ram on a graphics card as a buffer or something like that. Furthermore, the device driver for your ethernet card would be called FastEthernet.device, the MediatorNET.device is only for 10 MBit cards.

Either get a graphics card or get a 10 MBit ethernet card. Take the first option, you will not regret it, as you will then be able to have your Workbench in 16, 24 or even 32 bit color in resulutions of 800 x 600, 1024 x 768 or higher, and it makes browsing much more pleasant. Furthermore, the graphics card is faster than AGA anyway.

Have you installed the latest drivers and the updates, which model of mediator do you have and have you run the mediconfig program?

If you haven't got a FastEthernet.device in your Devs:Networks drawer, then you haven't installed all files. As said before MediatorNET.device is for 10 MBit cards, FastEthernet.device is for 100 MBit cards.

If you can't manage to install your Voodoo graphics card and Soundblaster 128 card, then I would suggest to read the manuals once again, as everything is documented on the MMCD.

Fastethernet.device is in devs/networks. Does someone have a idiot/n00b guide/troubleshooter here ???

Correct me if i am wrong, but the voodoo 3 3000 is agp. The voodoo 3 2000 is the pci one.

@jimmyboy

Sorry for saying so, but WTF do you use MediatorNET.device as your device driver??? As I already have written 2 times, you need to use FastEthernet.device for a 100 MBit ethernet card, and with the chipset you have given in your first post it is a 100 MBit ethernet card you have. Edit your Genesis config to use FastEthernet.device instead of MediatorNET.device, and try again.

@_ThEcRoW

Voodoo 3 3000 also were made as PCI cards. At least the 3 cards I have here is PCI ones.

I did change it to fastethernet.device when you told me to and no change. It is definately a Voodoo 3 3000 PCI
like this one:

Voodoo 3 3000 PCI (http://www.zappshop.de/product_info.php/products_id/89)

Does it make a difference to which slot the cards are in? Should i change them around maybe ?

Install Miami Deluxe instead then. Under interfaces, after selecting FastEthernet.device as your device driver, press "SANA-II parametres..." and then press "Query device". If it doesn't find a MAC adress, then the card is either not supported by Mediator, not installed correctly or broken.

Take a look here (http://web.sonofon.dk/allan-muller/miami/miami.html) for more info. Even though this guide is for Miami 3.2b, Miami Deluxe has the same buttons as on the website.
