Brilliant! DM are back on track. Mmmmmmm, more electronics.

My personal favourites so far are "A Pain That I'm Used To" and "Precious", possibly because those are the ones I've heard for a while and had time to become acclimatised to. But for example "Nothing's Impossible" really touches a nerve as well, the sound is a bit of Deine Lakaien and Klinik, yet distinctly DM!

I'll have to listen more to the rest. (As if this CD wasn't going to be spinning non-stop for weeks here... ;))

My personal favourites right now are Lilian and Damaged People... "Pain and Misery always hit the spot"... but I find my favourite seems to be the last one I heard at the moment :-)

But the beats and groves on all the tracks are really innovative... I'm desparatly trying to find a 5.1 system so I can hear it in full surround sound (apparently there is stuff hidden from the Stereo listener)!

@Matt

Sorry, I didn't get it yet. So much to do, so little time. I forgot what Manchester city centre actually looks like it's been so long since I went there.

I'll get hold of it soon and when I do I'll let you know.

Mdma tells me it's reet good as well :-)

@bloodline

I'm playing the angel right now...

Have to say I'm incredibly dissapointed. After the anticipation it just fails to deliver on the expectations.

It's like exciter all over again.....

Damn, he saw right through my baiting attempt :-x

It's actually very good :-D

Haven't really got a favourite track yet, after I've listened to it a few times I'll get back to you...

I love Lilian and Damaged People, John the Revelator is damn fine blues choon (with a nice sly dig at Bush...), though right now A Pain That I'm Used To won't get out of my head...

I'm quite taken by the really simplistic structure of "I want it all". The really minimalistic beat and slow major/minor chordal changes are quite hypnotic. At the same time, there is just enough instrumental detune and antiharmony in places to stop it becoming completely 'background'.

Plus Dave Gahan is one of the few people who can sing the line "Sometime I die, it's true" with total sincerity :-D

I find "suffer well" quite comedic. Am I a bad person?

Well I've played the album pretty much exhaustively at work today.

I think it's safe to say my colleagues aren't as into DM as they should be ;-)

Hahahahahahahaha :roflmao:

Give them a couple of days, they'll get used to it ;-) Actually I walked into my local HMV at lunch today, and they were playing the album... When I got there Sinner in me was playing, so I decide to stop there for a bit and listen the track out... but as each song came on, I had to stop there for a little longer... ended up buying a bunch of DVDs...  :crazy:

Well, a nice album but ... I didn't enjoy all of it. Maybe I was expecting another songs of faith and devotion. But there are some really nice tracks like lilian and john the revelator. I thought some of the stuff was written by dave gahan while I was listening and I was right. A first for DM. Maybe I'll get into this album more I listen to it.

oh lilian,
I'm a poor man's son,
and precious jewels weren't found in schools
where I came from ...

Hehe !

Exactly how I felt about 'exciter'. I still think it's their weakest album but, years after getting it I find I enjoy it a lot more now than I did at the start.

How many DM fans are there on amiga.org anyway?

Bloodline counts as 2...

@CountZero

Ahhh another SOFAD fan, first album I ever bought... and still my musical benchmark.

I think most DM fans prefer SOFAD. For me, I suppose violator would be second place.

And then Black Celebration for third...

I generally don't consider the competition for bronze position, but... yeah, I suppose. Maybe...

Yes, its the annual "Rate your favourite Depeche Mode albums in order of preference" thread... a vital and very holy ritual in the Depeche Mode calender... :-)

I guess we'll have the same issue with 'fave DM album list day' we do with Eid then.

@Matt

I heard some people made their lists the day after! Burn them all!

Surely there my be another way... I don't want to seem to judgemental... But then they won't learn if the punishment isn't severe enough...

Perhaps we could just burn some as an example to the others then...

Of course, none but the high priest keeper of the sock knows the true day. It begins as soon as the words "black celebration for third" are announced :-)
