Title: What am I supposed to do with the Blizzard disk?
Post by: MarkAshley on October 12, 2005, 02:56:02 PM
My Blizzard 040/40/32mb arrived today. I installed it and it seems to be working fine. It came with a floppy disk and the instructions told me to read the readme and follow the instructions. There was no readme, but on the disk were a few utilities (something to do with Assember, a "BlizzardPatch" and a "BlizzardSnooper"). I installed BlizzardPatch as it said it can speed up FPU functions. There is a libs directory on the disk which contains 68040.library. Am I supposed to copy that to LIBS:?

I think you're supposed to store it the place you keep floppy disks ;)

Well, if you have OS3.1+, the 68040.lib should already be in your Libs: directory. If what you have on the disk is a newer version than what you have on your HD, then by all means, replace it.

Thanks Amiduffer. It's a clean install of 3.9. I did check in libs: and couldn't see 68040.library. I'll copy it over tonight. What does it do anyway?

I can't for the life of me, remember what exactly will happen if you don't. From my use of 3.1, I know it was required, and that a 68040.lib is included with OS3.1, due to the nature of 68040. If things are different with 3.9, i'm not sure, but better safe than sorry, no?

What does it do anyway?

Sets up proper MMU setup for the system, installs required FPU emulation and other stuff. Basically it prevents from your system just failing miserably.

Also, without it you're not using the system to its' full potential.
