Title: Psion Gold Card 56k+Fax+10Mb Ethernet
Post by: MarkAshley on October 12, 2005, 12:26:30 PM
I've pilfered a Psion Gold Card 56k+Fax+10Mb Ethernet from work and want to use it with my A1200. I've read that the Ethernet Gold Cards work with cnet.device, but any idea if this one will work too? I don't care about the modem or fax, I just want to use the Ethernet.

Thanks
Mark

Update:

I took the card home and tried it. I installed Genesis and tried the Wizard. I configured the SANA-II device as cnet.device unit 0. It then tried to send a BOOTP request, then gave me the following error:

Card Reset Failed
Card Not Compatible?

So I guess I'm out of luck :(

What does card_info report.  Also, are you using card reset or  a hardware PCMCIA fix?

Here's the output from card_info:

Getting PCMCIA card info...
..Psion.56k + 10Mb Ethernet.400019-16C.123456789abc..
CCR Offset address (16 bit) = $008000, Config ID = $07
Interface Type 1, uses : RDYBSY
Getting I/O memory now - remove card if system freezes!
Saving data to t:card_info.bin
card_info done

I didn't a hardware hack or the software reset. I didn't think I needed this because the card was inserted before the Amiga was powered on. Is this correct?

No, in the absence of any fixes, the card needs to be inserted after the Amiga is powered on.

Are you sure this card is NE2000-compatible. The name of the driver it uses under Linux would be a clue to this. The card's dual function could potentially upset the driver too.

Ok, I tried inserting the card after booting the Amiga, and it made no difference. I still got the same error when I tried to configure Genesis. I don't know what Linux driver it uses, but I will try to find out.

I found this on a Linux support site. It's from a list of example configs for various PCMCIA Ethernet cards.

card "Psion Gold Card Netglobal 56K+10Mb Ethernet"
  manfid 0x016c, 0x0020
  bind "smc91c92_cs" to 0, "serial_cs" to 1

Does that help to determine if the card is NE2000 compatible?

Hi,

IIRC, these are not NE2000 compatible. I have one and use it in my Psion Netbook. This has in-built drivers for a handful of PCMCIA-based network cards, the Psion Gold Card being one of them, however it doesn't support generic NE2000 cards.
