Now thats insane.

Sad to see that they had to sell them. I hope they get a good home :-)

I'd hate to see the shipping bill for that lot, especially if it leaves the US! :-o

I bet those bidders are all locals.

I'd give up a testicle for that collection... I'd regret it later tho.

Yeah, the next time something else comes along that you'd pay that price for... or, rather, after that.

I hope some museum or university that wants to setup a permanent display wins the bid.

I find it unbelievable that people are bidding almost $8000 for a pile of junk like that. Apart from a handful of rarities, most of those machines could be picked up at a yard sale / car boot sale for $5. And once you have them, what would you do with them?

altair 8800 :-o mint?
wow there are some cool systems in that lot. some would grab quite a bit of money on their own.

I would imagine the point of the "junk" machines is to show progress over the "classic" machines. Hell, even I nabbed a near mint IBM PS/2 from outside the dumpster simply because it's nearly classic. Someday it will be. I sort of regret giving up my MFM/RLL hard drive collection almost 10 years ago. I almost miss that "hammer and chisel" sound they made. Miss my Zenith Data Systems 8088 with 2 30MB RLL drives and an amber monochrome screen. Miss the BBS days.
Ahh nostalgia.
