Can Yam pull down Hotmail messages?
I cannot find any support for Hotmail using POP3
Anyone investigated this problem?
-
Not by default i think... i've looked at earlier versions, but even in 2.3 i haven't found support for webmail like hotmail.
:-/
-
No browser (well apart from .net/IE/MSN crap) supports hotmail or any other webmail based stuff (IIRC). Get a good mailboxsupplier with a good webmail interface (like dds.nl) is what I'd suggest :-).
-
There was a program on Amiga Sourceforge that is described as being able to retrieve Hotmail through YAM via a proxy. I was not able to get it to work myself, although someone described it on amiga.org as being very simple to install...
hotway v0.51: Hotmail POP3 gateway (891047 Bytes)
If you look at:
http://hotwayd.sourceforge.net (http://hotwayd.sourceforge.net)
it lists YAM as one of the supported mail programs, and the actual support site can be found at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/hotwayd/ (http://sourceforge.net/projects/hotwayd/)
If someone can explain to me how to get it to work, I would appreciate it too.
-
Yeah, hotwayd work fine! :-)
To get it working is very simple, as say the docs :-P
I have the follow at MIAMI->DATABASES->INETD :
Service: pop3
Socket: stream
Protocol: tcp
Wait: nowait
User: root
Server: miami:hotwayd
Name: hotwayd
Args:
also, if you do not have, you need to add at MIAMI->DATABASES->SERVICES:
Name: pop3
ID: 110
Protocol: TCP
Then, at YAM->CONFIG->TCP/IP:
Server: localhost
port: 110
User: youhere@hotmail.com
pass: ************
and voila! it is working! :-P
if still do not work... I can tell us my ip to connect to and test it.. :-D

yay - I got it to work --- I can access Hotmail via Simplemail on my Amiga. Brilliant.
(KennyR from amiga.org actually explained it to me).
I was just wondering - I really doubt it, but is it possible also to SEND outgoing emails from your hotmail account via Hotway?

Excellant.
Which ones do i download for the Amiga.
-
If you just need "webmail" and not specifically Hotmail, Yahoo supports POP3, you just need to enable it (free) in the Mail Options pages.
-
OK i managed to get it working.
2 issues though, how do you stop a console window popping up?
and it does not download folders which obviously contain emails.
-
sorted out the folder issue, you have to move all mail back into inbox.. not such a big deal.
now how do we sort out that maimilog window??
-
I stand corrected that it is possible :-)

Re: Yahoo supporting pop3 mail - I think it was available free a while back, but they made it a pay option (~$20/yr)... If you are talking about retrieving yahoo email via your pop3 email program.
If you are talking about retrieving pop mail via yahoo's web interface, that is available for free, and also available from hotmail as well (and most other webmail services).

Hi, I've just downloaded hotwayd & am completely baffled.
Take me as a total lamer on this one. I've rtfm ;-) & still, I look at the screen like Homer Simpson looking at algebra.
Can anyone help me "make" the files I need to use it?
-
I could have sworn I had put a constructive comment in this thread already. Oh well here goes....Hotmail sucks! :-D
-
If your'e looking for free web-based email, mail2world (http://www.mail2world.com) us ok...
-
The Amiga supports Hotmail via IBrowse. See our review of IBrowse 2.3; http://www.swaug.org.uk/ibrowse
It's not just IE that can access Hotmail
-
He he but only IE users that would want too ;-)
-
Ok, this is for the benefit of all you folks that had problems with hotwayd. It is a inetd daemon, which means you don't run it directly - it is run via your TCP/IP stack and sets up an emulated mail server. So what you're doing really is collecting mail from your own system, and hotwayd will intercept this and go fetch your hotmail. It sounds complicated but it isn't - in other words, *any* pop mailer can collect hotmail and you don't need to go into Microsoft's ad-ridden site.
The package is here (http://dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/amiga/hotway-0.51.lha). Read the README file to see how to install it for your TCP/IP stack. It's really not so hard.

Its very easy to set-up just follow @dcr8520 thread above..
The only thing you have to check is where you put hotwayd, mines in the root of miami directory.
Anyone got any help for me in removing the log window when using Miami.

Well I got it free :-)
This is to enable retrieving via POP3 in web-browsers and/or standalone e-mail clients. You just have to sign up for some "promotional email", yet even then you can choose "only send me the categories below", and don't choose any.
When I set it up (about 3 weeks ago) I admit I used mail2web to test it, but I just added an account to Opera 7.03's mail client and it picked my mail up fine.
Have to say, this was from the UK though?

Turn off logging or direct to >NIL: or a file. Unfortunately there's no way to stop hotwayd outputting this stuff.
-
thanks, ive ended up removing the logging and use syslog.library.
removes the output completely.
cheers

I could have sworn I had put a constructive comment in this thread already. Oh well here goes....Hotmail sucks!
Oh so true. I had started a new account several months ago but had never used it or gave out the address. One week later when I signed in I had spam :-x Almost one hundred messages of it. It is my opinion that the only reason Microsoft has Hotmail is to sell the addresses thus making more money.
Never again will I use hotmail.
