What exactly is that circuit board/chip thing under the front panel on the Amiga 1000... The cover for it pops right off.
TIA.

That is the 256Kb to 512Kb RAM expansion module.
-
Ah so if I have a chip there, then my 1000 has been "expanded" to 512k?
-
256Kb to 512Kb RAM expansion module?
Is that the max amount of ram upgrade there is on the front?

From the front panel expansion, yes. Otherwise, there are internal boards made for the A1000 to increase the RAM to 1.5Mb and more.

Yes.

You mean this (http://www.amiga.org/gallery/photo.php?lid=37)?
That's the 256KB RAM expansion.
Anything more has to go via the side slot or via the CPU socket.

It would have been cooler to have a 5.25" drive bay for SCSI in there.
