AmigaOS 3.9 for m68k, MorphOS 1.4.5 (http://powerup.morphos-team.net/) if you have a PPC accelerator.
Also, what is needed to make these run on the machine properly?
For AmigaOS 3.9 you need Kickstart 3.1.
For MorphOS 1.4.5 you need the CSPPC and a compatible gfxcard. See the webpage for details.

So if I have 3.0 installed on it, odds are I have the 3.1 rom already installed right? Where do I look in the machine to verify this? What should the chip say, just ROM 3.1 ?
Thanks.

In shell do:
1.> version
Kickstart 40.68 means you have 3.1, 39.x means you have 3.0.

Will OS3.9 play nicely on 3.0 roms?

No you will need to softkick the 3.1Roms then! it will work quoite fine but id suggest getting 3.1roms instead they are not that expensive. Another thing to note is what CPU is in your a3000? an original 030/25mhz will be slow with 3.9! better go install 3.1 then and build upon that with OS hacks etc (wich is more or less what 3.5/9 is a collection of.

Ummmm, is that legal?

Ok, but only if he doesn't use the real 3.1 roms any more, right? Otherwise it would be like installing the same piece of software on two machines.
(And no, this isn't meant to be another "is Kickstart hardware or software" debate  )

If you are going to get 3.1 ROMs for your A3000 I highly recommend you get with Software Hut. Installing 3.1 ROMs in the A3000 is the toughest from any other Amiga! The reason? Some A3000's have ROM Towers, some don't. There are 2 different ROM sets you can get, so you need to know which one will work. Some system boards have Silk screening errors etc, and if you get the wrong ROMs Softhut will gladly exchange them and set you straight! Highly recommended.

Hi,
I had my A3K softkicked to KS3.1 (its ROMs were only 2.x) but found, in practice, that it ate too much memory on a stock machine - I now have real KS3.1 ROMs.
However, there's no harm in giving it a go, depending on how much spare RAM you've got. I used SetCPU (http://main.aminet.net/package.php?package=util/misc/SetCPU.lha) with VerCheck (http://main.aminet.net/package.php?package=util/misc/VerCheck.lha), and added a short statement to the beginning of my Startup-Sequence to load KS3.1 if it wasn't present. If you do this, make sure you use a KS3.1 image designed for the A3000 and not the A2000/A1200/A4000 varieties...
