Title: New cpu or not??
Post by: jimmyboy on October 07, 2005, 05:58:43 PM
I have a apollo 1240 but would like to change it into a 1260. I recently got the power converter. Ive read the manual but im unsure if the 040 would act as a 060 just by putting this power converter on. Im uncertain about the 2 060 jumper settings aswell. Can anyone help please...

As the final conversion piece, you need to find someone with an A1260 card and copy the eprom firmware over your A1240 eprom chip. The one that you have now is 040 specific. So basically, you need someone with:

- an eprom burner
- an A1260 060 eprom

Oh, and you need an actual 68060 CPU chip as well in order to replace the 68040 CPU that you currently have.

Maybe buying the power converter was a waste   :madashell:

Isnt there a flash update somewhere?

I doubt that anyone has an image file of the eprom available for download. Even if you find one over the net, you still need an eprom burner in order to overwrite your A1240 eprom.

The best thing to do would be to sell the A1240 and buy a Blizzard 1260, or BlizzardPPC. :-D
