Title: Questions about Model #'s

I have an Amiga 1000. I see alot of talk about the A600's that make me think they are more powerful than the 1000. Can someone give me the rundown of the model numbers (I'm sure I can google it) but I thought someone might have a good link already of side by side comparisions or could give me a list of models in rank by power/features.

A600 is pretty much same speed as A1000, only slightly faster due to ECS chipset. A600 also some more memory by default than A1000.

Plain A600 surely isn't worth it, better keep the A1000.

If you need an expandable Amiga, get A1200. A1200 has the best set of expansions available, while still being reasonably priced. If you're loaded with cash, you could think about A4000...

The A500, A600 and A1200 are the typical homeowner machiners (they're the ones that just look like a keyboard).  They came out in that order and the most powerful one is the A1200.

The A1000, A2000, A3000 and A4000 are what are usually described as "big box" amigas.  They are housed in proper desktop/tower cases.  I *think* they were released in that order.

The problem with the A1000, is that it is (today) the hardest to upgrade into a really powerful computer. You can make an A2000 a powerhouse, but the aga machines are the best bet for the classic Amigas (A1200 or A4000/T).

Unless you can expand an A2000 with a 68060 and a gfx card  :lol:

In order of CPU power:

A500/A1000/A2000 = 8Mhz 68000 + Original Chip Set
A500+/A600 = 8Mhz 68000 + Enhanced Chip Set
A1200 = 14Mhz 68020 + Advanced Graphic Architecture
A3000 = 16MHz or 25MHz 68030 + Enhanced Chip Set
A4000 = 25Mhz 68040 + Advanced Graphic Architecture


Original Chip Set = basic (Usually with ~512K RAM)
Enhanced Chip Set = Faster + extra modes (Usually with 1Mb RAM)
Advanced Graphic Architecture = Fastest + Better colour modes + ECS screen resolutions (Came with 2Mb Chip RAM).

That is just the Hardware... someone else can talk about the OS revisions...  :crazy:
