I've got an offer for the above video card for £40 INCLUDING postage, is it worth it for my Amiga?
-
Not realy... you're better of with a Voodoo3 3000/2000 as they are better supported. The Amiga is the bottleneck, not the graphiccard, so you won't get any more speed out of it compared to the Voodoo3... and the drivers only support one GPU so the seccond one is unnused... and as the Voodoo5 split the mem 32Mb for each GPU you only get to use half the mem on the card.
Besides the card is humongos, use active cooling (2 noisy fans) and requier extra power plugged to it for it to run.

I have been offered a Voodoo 2 12mb I think for £10, is that a better bet?
-
How about this one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CREATIVE-BLASTER-VOODOO-BANSHEE-16MB-PCI-CARD-PCI_W0QQitemZ6808459801QQcategoryZ27388QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Get a Voodoo 3 PCI 2000 or 3000 card. It's the best choice for any Amiga PCI busboard out there.
There is no 3D support for Voodoo Banshee in the Warp3D package, IIRC.
-
Then that's what I'll try and track down then :) Many thanks :)

No support for Voodoo2 at all. The driver is a Voodoo3 driver but also work with Voodoo Banshee/4/5 cause the hardware is somewhat compatible.
Voodoo3 3000 is the best you can get but a Voodoo3 2000 is almost as good and well worth buying also.
If there's room in the machine and you can get hold of a AGP2PCI addaptor you could even use a Voodoo3 3500, don't know if the Amiga gain anything from it but it is the best card that's fully supported by the driver. :)
-
wait, can you use the TV in on a Voodoo 3500 with the Mediator sw? :-?
-
Don't think so. :-?
-
How about the Voodoo4 series?
-
AGP to PCI convertor???? never saw one of these...
-
Voodoo3 3500 only have tv out, not tv in, and for the other question about the voodoo2, it isn't a graphic card at all, it was an 3d enhancer wich need a graphic card in a pc, only used it when needed, so you need a graphic card in order to use it. The other factor is that the driver of the mediator as said in the thread doesn't support voodoo2.
By the way, agp to pci adaptor???, is this possible?
-
Same problem apply to the Voodoo4 card on the Amiga, it uses a Voodoo3 driver so not all screenmodes will be available and you don't get much more speed out of the card since the Amiga is the bottleneck.
AGP is basicly a redesign of a PCI slot. Addaptors to change between AGP and PCI does exist... but it will not work with AGP4/8 cards, only old AGP cards such as the Voodoo3 3500. :-D
And yes it does exist... search for AGP2PCI (http://images.google.com/images?q=AGP2PCI) on Google/Pictures

I'll try and track down a 3 2000 or 3000 then.. Not point in having something thats not supported...
Many thanks :)

I switched my voodoo3 to a voodoo5, because of the larger
memorybank. I think it is really anoying on voodoo3 when I want to
swich screens, it takes a second or more! this should be fast as a
lightning! isn´t it an amiga!? This was corrected with the larger
memory on the voodoo5, but the screens has to be the same resolution
to swap fast. The voodoo5 has no benefits but the larger memory, and
to get use of the bigger memory; one has to give up on Warp3D since it
only can adress one gpu, and by that disables half of the memory. If
You can accept slow screenswaps, then don´t buy an voodoo5 if you can
get hold of a cheaper card, it has no other benefits than larger
memory. But I know I won´t switch back anyway.
