Which IDE splitter is better concerning value for money.
The EIDE splitter from Elbox with the EIDE 99 fix software?
Or the other IDE splitter, (dont know who makes it), which uses the the IDE fix 97 software?
The Elbox one comes with the AllegeroCDFS and I think supports
the larger HD like 2g + and its buffered, dont know about the other one.
Does anyone know or has had experience with these splitters?
Thanks

I've got IDEfix 97 with that unnamed buffer.
Never had any problems with it - used a 2.4Gb and 52x CD-Rom for a few years with it then changed the HD to a 19Gb one with almost no problems. I originally couldn't see all of the HD, but it was due to not installing 3.5 until later.

I used 4GB HD with my Idefix adaptor. Never heard of 'buffered' IDE
splitters and large HDs (>8GB) work with Idefix too. It is just matter
of right driver.

i have a splitter using ide fix 97 with a 52x cd and a 40gb 2.5 hd its unbuffered but i havent had any problems with it, but i think i need one that can run 4 drives, so which one is best for that? also what is the difference between buffered and unbuffered?

Thanks for the info fellas,
I dont really know the benifits of the buffered ide interface over the unbuffered version there most likely isnt any.

There are 2 kinds of 4Way Splitters:
the "so called" BUFFERED (active, with the datalines electrically
"buffered") . . .OK for A1200 IDE port (if you want/need to use
3,5" devices and/or longer cables in tower systems)
and the UNBUFFERED one (passive) used "usually" in A4000.
Both supported by IDEFix97

I heard its dangerous to connect two IDE devices to unbuffered splitter because A1200 CPU is somehow 'directly connected to IDE port', but it could be just a rumour
-
I thought it was due to the power line on the IDE cable?
I've got a buffered one anyway so it's no bother to me :-)

The EIDE'99 (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=194) has a DVD UDF filesystem called Allegro which is one benefit if you wish to read files on a DVD-ROM. Of course this solution supports upto 4 devices too (2 on the primay channel and 2 on the secondary channel)
In addition, it connects directly to the IDE port without and cables so its a neater solution in a tower system IMHO.
