Hello Amigans. I have a CS 060 MkII in my desktop A4K and was wanting to overclock it so I bought a 66mhz oscillator but it is smaller and square shaped as opposed to rectangular. The CS board does have two extra holes to accomodate such an oscillator but there does not appear to be any tracks leading to these holes. Will the oscillator still work or will the board need modifying?
Also, from what I have read about overclocking this particular board it appears that a fan is needed. Which type of fan should I buy and where should I place it? I cannot attach a fan to the processor as there is already a big heatsink glued onto it!

you could use
a 14 pin DIL IC socket (cut away the internal pins) with 2 little
jumper to fit the new quartz shape (thats an 8 pins).
Respect the pin orientation (the small dot on the quartz case)
Obviously, you MUST use an active cooling combo (heatsink+40x40x10
fan)
i.e:
14 pins DIL IC socket
1.....7
8.....14
the new quartz will fits pins 1-4 and 8-11
1..4..7
8..11..14
with a jumper from 4>7 and from 11>14
The dot on the NEW quartz, goes on pin 4

rude but
or find a rectangular (14 pins) shaped quartz.
If you haven't the "right" skill, even desoldering a simple quartz,
could damage your card.

You're in luck. I have a spare 66mHz crystal for that card. I found that the highest I could overclock was 60mHz, but you may be okay with 66mHz. PM me your address and I'll mail it to you.
As for the fan: you can mount it on the heatsink and its benefit will be the same.
edit: give me your email too so I can give you a picture of how it should be installed if you are in doubt about the corner orientation.

It´s a working square shaped dmodule on a working MK2 060 board that runs at 64 Mhz and can be found for just 5 Euro at THIS Ebay auction (http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/Amiga-Tuning-64-Mhz-Crystal_W0QQitemZ5278905189QQcategoryZ8101QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). I know what I´m talking about, also have got one of his modules in my A3640 board that runs at 32 Mhz (64 Mhz crystal) ...

Right... the 14 pin 50Mhz oscillator is NOT soldered to the board so removing it is not a problem. So you are telling me that I need a 14 pin DIL socket? And I am assuming that I can fit the 8 pin 66Mhz oscillator to this socket? While, like I said previously, I am a novice when it comes to overclocking, that does not mean I have never touched a soldering iron in my life nor does it mean I am incapable of doing this. You told me which fan to use but did not say where I should place it. And with regards to the heatsink, the processor has a rather large one already attached to it. I appreciate your help but I think that something has been lost in translation...

Effy, my board looks just like that... with the extra two holes in the middle of the 14 pin socket to cater for 8 pin oscillators. I can fit my 8 pin 66Mhz to the board like in the picture but my concern was that there are no visible tracks leading to these two middle holes. Does this matter or will I need to make any modifications? I am so so with a soldering iron. And thank you to whoever it was that clarified to me where to put to fan!

Just stick the square oscillator you've got onto the board like in the picture. No soldering required.
Be aware that some CS mk2 SCSI modules don't like overclocking (the ones with a Symbios SCSI chip) (the ones with a FAS216 SCSI chip tolerate overclocking just fine).

Samanosuke : like PaSha claims, no modifications needed and indeed you can have trouble with scsi. I had my Blizzard PPC 240/060+scsi overclocked to 270 Mhz + 60 Mhz and not 66 Mhz because then the scsi crashed. The seller (http://search.benl.ebay.be/_W0QQsassZpcsuptech) with the 64 Mhz crystals seems to have 25 left :-D

I am "The Seller" Effy is referring to.
I can confirm that these 64 Mhz are working fine, and that no modifications are needed.
This then has been tested by performing a 6 hours long test, and no problems could be found. A cooler might be a very good idea, of course !!!
As stated by Effy, I still have about 25 of those left, and they are sold for just 5 euro indeed.

I just checked my CyberSCSI board. It has the FAS216 chip but it has never tolerated overclocking, not even 60mHz.
