Why?

What is wrong with eating dog over another meat such as cow or pig?

No, I was referring to the attitude of "two shotguns and a clawhammer"

Hmm how else would you have him defend himself, his family and his business against armed looting parties?

Could have been a bluff, but it's probably more effective than a sign that says "I'm unarmed"

That's exactly why it's barbaric.
Nothing to be proud of or something...

trust me, he was kidding. (But in a way that makes people who might WANT to steal his stuff not want to test it).

people who live there get the message.

Having ruined a brand new pair of shoes walking back from an evening out last weekend when I stepped in a dog turd (which was exactly twenty feet away from the bin provided for dog litter) I'm almost out of charity for our four legged, tail wagging friends...

Why does dog excrement have all the adhesion properties of Araldite?

...But I'm even more uncharitable toward their lazy owners, who don't clean up after their pets.

It should be made law that a dog owner who fails to clean up Rover's crap must suffer the consequences of allowing joe public into their homes to crap on their living room carpet.

PETA Kills dogs (and cats) (http://www.petakillsanimals.com/news.cfm)

Law enforcement officials with the Ahoskie Police and Bertie County Sheriff's Office were able to observe a white panel van drive next to the commercial dumpster located behind Piggly Wiggly in Newmarket Shopping Center. A person in the van tossed several dark-colored bags in the dumpster before the van attempted to pull away.

The bags located in the dumpster contained 18 dead dogs, including one bag containing seven puppies. An additional 13 dead dogs were found in the van.

A license check revealed the van was registered to PETA in Norfolk, Va. Cook and Hinkle identified themselves as PETA representatives from Norfolk, Va.

PETA representatives had picked-up live dogs at the Bertie Animal Shelter for at least the last two months.

Anderson, also involved in Wednesday's surveillance and subsequent arrest, was able to positively identify nearly all of the dogs found in the dumpster as the ones picked-up just a few hours earlier on Wednesday by Cook and Hinkle.

The arrests came after a month-long investigation in which as many as 80 dead animals had been found in dumpsters on four consecutive Wednesday nights.

Something similar with PETA happened here, they've been banned from picking up animals from our "no-kill" shelters as they've been caught killing them and leaving them in Food Lion dumpsters.

Its all about the money.

PETA raked in nearly $29 million last year in income, much of it raised from pet owners who think their donations actually help animals. Instead, the group spends huge sums on programs equating people who eat chicken with Nazis, scaring young children away from drinking milk, recruiting children into the radical animal-rights lifestyle, and intimidating businessmen and their families in their own neighborhoods. PETA has also spent tens of thousands of dollars defending arsonists and other violent extremists.

Keeping pets alive to be placed costs PETA money, so they kill them as quickly as possible, so more money is available for their priorities. PETA puts to death over 85 percent of the animals it takes in!
