Will the A520 modulator work in AGA modes from an A4000?
-
The A520 was designed for the OCS/ECS standard. But try it out anyway, who knows it might work?
-
I'm wondering because I've seen an S-Video hack for the A520... Which would be an awesome way to pump my A4k video into my PC, which has a Pinnacle video capture card in it.
-
It should work fine. But if you switch to a weirdassed VGA type mode, the output will be wacked.
-
If you're bound for S-Video, better look for a decent genlock at eBay - much better picture than a (hacked) 520 & same price.
-
I agree with Zac67. Get a Lola2000 if you can...I saw one a few months ago sell for £5 on Ebay!!
-
@Dr_Righteous
You can hack A1200 native composite output for S-Video, so I guess it should be possible for A4000 aswell (at least if the A4000 composite output uses this Sony chip...).

"naarasliitin edestä" == "female connector, front"
"maa" == "ground"
[EDIT]Oh well, this would be a nice hack, if only A4000 had composite output. Too bad.[/EDIT]
-
the A520 is a simple RGB>CVBS/RF encoder and works with ALL the Amiga
RGB port (less the model that doesn't feeds one of the power lines).

Is still a crap solution but with that hack, you can see the difference (see the wafeform on Dave's page)

No offense, but eh... what A4000 composite output? AFAIK there never was one....

Exactly, and this is in fact the only thing I miss from my A1200 :-(
-
@PaSha
Well, that kind of ruins the plan. Doh.
Again one reason why A1200 rules over A4000. :-)
-
by the way, you always could use the svideo output of a gfx card (most gfx as voodoos had one).
Do you have a gfx card?
-
Of course... I have a wonderful Voodoo3 PCI card. No PCI to put it on tho. But that kinda defeats the purpose anyway. Since SD/FF's are virtually non-existant for AGA, and those that do exist virtually impossible to find, I just want some way of replacing my aging C=1950 monitor, and viewing native graphics modes.
-
@Zac67 & X-ray
You know, now that I've seen the A520 mod page again, I think the Genlock idea is a more attractive one.
-
>SD/FF's
I'm not good with acronyms.
-
Having looked at the - apparently very well done - A520 hack I take back everything I said about picture quality.
But an SVid genlock is a much easier - yet bulkier - way to do it. ;-)

@Piru
pfftt an Amiga Guru like you talking about A4k composite out!
:crazy:

Just wondering, how hard the Sony CXA1145M is to come by and on the other hand, how complex the connection between Lisa and the Sony chip is?

Why not use an RGB->Component converter (http://www.jrok.com/hardware/RGBv4/) with a moder lcd telly?
