I obtained an A1000 yesterday. It works great!
The machine has a memory expansion at the front trapdoor. It is on this picture. (http://home.wanadoo.nl/leof/A1000RAM.jpg) This hardware has not a single brand or designation on it. Total memory is about 1MB (half chip, half fast).
I was curious what would be inside so I opened it up. Wow, is that complicated! I also saw some rework (lot of wires (http://home.wanadoo.nl/leof/A1000Mem.jpg)) which I suppose has to do with the RAM. But there was also this modification. (http://home.wanadoo.nl/leof/A1000.jpg) What the heck is that for?

*THAT* is a pal colourburst crystal - I'm guessing the original owner had some sync problems that he created a finetuning circuit for?
Used those crystals alot in psx modifications heh
