Post by: _caddy_ on September 21, 2005, 12:10:00 PM
i bought one off ebay, and dont know which way it goes onto the clock port....can anyone help, its not like the one on amiga hardware either

also my motherboard has the full clock header, unlike every other 1200 i've had, which has only had half

Yeah, I had the same problem when connecting my hypercom (there are no markings to tell you!). Eventually I just took a chance and tried one way then the other. It seems that fitting in the wrong orientation does not cause any damage but you won't be able to open the high-speed serial port with your TCP/IP software. Of course, someone else may know the correct way to fit it...

As for the extra pins, you will have to cut the two next to the ones you attach the connector otherwise it won't fit. That's what I did and it works fine.

it wont boot the amiga, if its one way round,  but the other it boots fine, oh well, at least theres a 50% chance of getting it right first time, lol

but how do i know it works? does it have some diagnostics software? or somesuch.....to be honest it has pretty much no functionality for me, since i have braudband through my ethernet card, but i needed something to go over the clock port to stop some metal on the inside touching it if it slid.
the oher option was a 44 pin ide header, which was about 31 pence less expensive...mm ebay but i thought i might as well have something seful instead of nothing, right?...
 also does anyone know what the pinouts of the serial connector is, im thinking that i should change the 25 pin for a 9 pin one.....

time to get that damn modem back off my mate (pace56k external - i'm sure this'll work with amiga... though, never tried)

The Pace56K external is a very nice modem to have, highly recommended by Amiga Format it was!

@_caddy_

The red wire on the circuit board should point away from the accelerator slot pins. (in your picture the red wire would be at the top)

The smaller ribbon cable fits so that it passes over the small capacitors on the small circuit board.

BTW, some modems come with a 9 pin adaptor...

figired it out, cheers mate.
also took a 9 pin sub d with cablefrom a pc serial and checked to see wether the pins were compatable, its now got a 9pin adaptor in it instead of the 25 pin one

got the info on how it'd fit from HWB. according to that its should work

thanks for the info anyway :)
