They have revolutionized gaming!
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/press_release.php?aid=11577
-
Sounds interesting, looks weird (http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651334p1.html).
Huge in Japan, probably not over here. Good luck to them though - they're the only ones who are trying to do something different.
-
now you can do a real golf swing or bat swing. Point-n-kill now with the "remote", no more fps advantage for pc mouse users...
-
Nothing "revolution"-ary here at all. Have you ever tried to play a game with your DVD remote control?

I smell something. I see no bridges yet I smell a troll...hmmm...
Read the article, watch the video then maybe you'll have something constructive to say.

Either a flop or a total success. I remember that the N64's controller was critizised before it's release, but it's actually the only gamepad suited for first person shooters. This might be a cool one aswell; now you truly will have to aim for the pixels you're firing at. :-)
-
It'd be interesting to know what kind of sensors that device actually has. The commercial makes it look like a nifty thingy at any rate.
-
I thought the sensor was a gyroscope.
But personally, I think only creative programmers can make a revolution, not just a controller.
-
as far as aiming at a TV goes, 2 sensors go to the far corners of the TV to define the screen area. So regardless of your display method (projection, VGA, HDTV, SCART, NTSC, progressive, LCD, plasma), point-n-kill will always work.
It doesn't use the Duck Hunt scan line method so all displays on the planet are supported. Genius and simple as it should be.
They filed a patent within the last year that describes the process. If MS or Sony tries to copy this, they will be in trouble.

So, I'm a troll becuase I don't swing on Nintendos nuts like you do???
I read the article, and saw the video on IGN, and I still see it for nothing more than a high tech gimic. Sure, it might be neat and even useful in something like a golf or tennis game. But what about a platfomer, shooter, or fighting game? I'd rather have a controller that works with everything, then add the gimics on as needed if a game really warrants it. (ie. marracas, taiko drums, turntable/mixer, etc.)

Maybe you spend too much time swinging your own. :flame:
You do realize it's going to come with a 2-button analog addon and that more addons that turn it into a full-wavebird-like controller without losing the point-n-kill (as I like to call it for FPS game) aspect. See IGN's mockup. Also, I don't see why you couldn't use the Cube's controllers on it as backup for tradtional games.
Infact, between the 2 analog button on the included nunchuck-analog stick addon and the buttons on the controller, all and more of the cube's buttons are covered except the "C" (or camera) stick. But that can be simulated by tilting the controller any which way.
These addons are going to be for making certain types of games more ergonomic. Control possibilities are no longer limited.
Nintendo just put us one step closer to the 3D desktop and I'm a fanboy. Give it a rest and just admit they have something special here.
-
They have something different, whether its special remains to be seen...

It depends on the games made to take advantage of it. For example, the DS touchscreen could be considered special (as it was one of the first on a handheld console), but I've yet to see a game that really excells because of it. So, until we see the games, I'm calling it a gimic.
BTW, I'm glad you're finally admiting to being a fanboy. That's the first step to recovery.

They demo'd Metroid Prime 2 on the GC with a wired verion of the nunchuck-combo and it was a smash hit with the editors, even the Sony editors (editors who focus on Sony)... Like I said point-n-kill (point, click and kill). It's a console FPS-player's dream. Gimic, I think not. Even Metroid Prime:Hunters' touch-n-kill was a big plus when people actually PLAYED it. This is just an extension of that ontop of it's gyro-scopic capabilities.
But I see your reasoning...
I guess it's just as gimmicky as:
the D-Pad
L/R buttons
Analog stick
wireless controllers
Eye-Toy
rumble technology
steering wheels
stereo sound
hi-res display
...and pretty much anything else that can make console game playing more immersive and better.

this stuff looks really cool. I hope they release a pc compatible usb version of this controller. though possibly this will not be a good idea for marketing the new console.
-
Hmm i guess a similar thing exists for pc's already from these guys. (http://www.gyration.com/)
