I got my PowerBook it's actually pretty incredible.
OSX 10.2 runs very fast considering its only a 667mhz processor, apps are a tad sluggish, but what can you expect... I got XChat installed .. it's fun to hack and play with OSX... very fun OS to toy with... the display on it is very clear and large 'feeling' because its widescreen 15'2 feels more like a 17" or greater.
I have nothing but good to say about this... I absolutely love the system... I plan to put an additional 512MB of ram into it when I get the cash to buy it.
I havent burned a DVD with the superdrive but I plan to go and buy some blank DVD"s and check that out soon... it's a very very cool laptop... I already had a Chembook (PC laptop)... and I'm very impressed with the Powerbook it's much nicer in every respect in terms of bieng a 'nice' product and having a quality feel.
very good purchase....makes me want a PPC970 desktop when they come out... should be fun to see if MorphOS can ever run on this laptop...

He he he. Sounds fun. Still, sluggish at 667MHz! Jeez, I wonder what it would be like on a 601 66MHz (assuming it would even run of course)!

I preordered 12" AL PowerBook in January. A nice built to order unit with 640MB, DVD-R, 60GB, and 802.11g card. It arrived 3 weeks later with HDD problems. I sent it back for service. After a month of my unit being on hold with no ETA for the needed part (60GB HDD which are widely available online, great job Apple!) Apple agreed to send me another new unit.
I wonder when I will finally see it. I was very hyped over the 12" PowerBook - I needed smallest notebook possible with without castrated features - 2 months ago but right now I start to wonder if I ever pick another Mac again.

i recently purchased the g3 /800 mhz ibook runs osx jaguar very well very fast but still not as fast as my A1200/ppc210/060/50 grex/voodoo3/3000 IB2.3 on the internet i deleted IE and installed nutscrape as it is way faster on ibook than IE but all up the ibook is great lots of fun too use

I'm surprised you don't consider it faster....I had an A1200 060/50 with Voyager 3 (aga though)....and when I sold that, I bought a lowly PowerMac 6100 601/60 w/HPA graphics....I was so amazed with my new found speed!
I had an upgraded B&W PowerMac, with an overclocked G4 upgrade card running at 550mhz, run OS X Beta (yippee! apple released a beta! and it was fun too!)
Course MorphOS and Amiga Inc. don't release beta's on account of they are so 'professional' compared to apple...
but I digress....I know OS X Beta was slow, but compared to the Amiga days, it still rocked...and I didn't find it slow....loved IE5 beta as well....
I guess I love it all...hehehe....I hear good things about Safari, I think apple has done the right thing with the Unix underpinnings, pretty gui, and bundled apps.
now I'm PC only, but that will change.....just a temporary thing, not by design. I am typing right now, on a compaq IA-1 with 10 inch flat screen, AMD K62-266 running Linux midori distro and Opera 5...I spent $40 bucks on this, and I think I'm so cool...really, I'm cool!!!! LOL
other than the fact that a screen blanker is coming on automatically every freakin 10 seconds, this is a nice little setup for occasional internet access....hmmm, while I'm at it, does anyone know about linux screen blankers?

If anything is sluggish it's more likely due to lack of RAM rather than CPU. Check your pageouts

PS: Quartz uses a lot of RAM and VRAM due to it being layer based as opposed to region based.
A friend uses OS X 10.2.x on his 400mhz G3 Pismo and it runs very well. He has 768MB of RAM. I have 1Gig of RAM in my PowerBook.

PPS: If you want to burn bin/cue files you can use the unix tool cdrdao which you can install using fink.

Are you interested in running AmigaOS4 on your powerbook?

Darth_X at this point the question isnt wether I want to run OS4 on my powerbook... the question is do I want to run OS4 at all... MOS gets better and better ever day...
no need for OS4 here... not really...
(no offense intended just speaking the truth)

Congrats mips_proc. Powerbooks are nice setups,
especially with OSX (and possibly later MOS:)).
There are lot of cool browsers for OSX too.
