Hi,
This is intended for people that followes (or plans to follow) the OS4 way.
Just to know, what will you do ? :
- keep your Cyberstorm PPC card on your Amiga and buy AmigaOS4
- buy an AmigaOne + OS4
Thanks.
-
I'm going for the A1 approach. Although the idea of upgrading my A1200 with PPC is nice , that approach is too expensive from my position. Then again your question was largely aimed at users who currently own classic PPC amigas.
-
I'm buying an AmigaOne, which will be my main system once OS4 is up and running on it. I will keep my A1200 for older games, at least until someone develops a good AGA emulation layer for OS4. Probably, I will downgrade it somewhat (removing the BlizzardPPC, for example:-)).
Perhaps you should ask this over at Amigaworld, I think there are more of us OS4 people there.

Hi :-)
I'm already using a CyberstormPPC in my A4000D, planning to buy an AmigaOneXE G4 (the biggest one available) and owner of tree $50 coupons ;-)
So I will buy AmigaOS 4 for CyberStorm AND for my (soon to be mine) AOne :-D
Amigalement,
Jean-François Bachelet, Amiga ONLY since 1985.
-----------------------------------------------
That config : Amiga 4060D-PPC, CyberstormPPC 233, CyberVisionPPC 8Mb, 150Mb Fast, 2Mb Chip ;-) AmigaOS 3.9 BB3, Blizkick v1.24rc5, MMULib v43.6, Exec.library v44.1b4, Highway USB, X-Surf I, HyperCOM IIIZ, Repulse SoundCard, 10 Gb IDE HD, 4.5Gb UltraWide SCSI HD and outside the box : 2x 2Gb SCSI II HDs, 1x 4.5Gb FastSCSI III HD, Iomega Zip 100 internal SCSI, Plextor UltraPleX 40 max FastSCSI III CDRom, Plextor PleXWriter 12/4/32 FastSCSI III CDWriter, SyQuest SyJet 1.5Gb Cartridges SCSI HD all in a neat small SCSI tower, ADSL Internet :-) Epson GT5000 // flatbed scanner, Canon BJC620 BubbleJet printer. Pfffew ;-) (others 22 AMIGA configs on demand :-D ).

If i can, i'll buy a SharkG4.
Probably i will an AmigaONE user.
-
with a bit of luck I will be keeping my classic PPC amiga and getting an A1 which will run OS4. I havent decided on OS4 for my classic yet, it all depends on my financial situation when OS4 launches, if I dont have much money it will have to be classic OS4. But I would much prefer an A1+OS4 :-). I look forward to having Mork (A1) and Mindy (1200 PPC) running next to each other :-)
-
I will be using OS4 on my A1200 BlizzardPPC until next year. After which I will be getting the biggest A1 (A2 perhaps ). Having said that, Alan was on about an A1-Lite, now depending on what it turns out to be, the size and the cost of it, I may get it b4 if it is cheaper then current models.
At most I'll be getting some more RAM for the A1200, if i can find it 2 sticks of 128Mb, but prob have to settle for 2 sticks of 64Mb.
-
I will go for both of them (A1+C.PPC),
I hope to get fairly cheap (?) CyberstormPPC
once people start upgrading, but maybe most
people will keep their classic ppc's, I know
I would....
-
I don't wanna buy a PPC for my 4000.
so I will order an Aone with OS4 (when available)
I also think the Boards will getting cheaper than today...
-
ive preordered an a1 g4 xe but i do also have an a1200 with blizard ppc 200mhz so i could try both out.
:-)
-
I'm going to wait until AmigaOS4 is completed and hopefully be able to buy an official boxed copy of it and potentially run it on a Pegasos II based system. :-D
-
Was it supposed to be fun ?
-
Not having PPC nor gfx-card in my A4000@060 (and it being
notoriously flakey when least expected), I'll get an AOne G4-XE.
I'll happily run Linux on it until AOS4 comes out. I have
waited this long - I'll be damned if I gave it up now when
there is actually weeks between the news items rather
than months... :-)

Hi Elwood,
My A1-G4 is already pre-ordered, and I'm looking forward to getting it. Whenever that'll be. I'll still be keeping my A4kT around until all the software I require runs properly on the A1. Then it's going to become an mp3/image server for the A1 and PowerBook.

Which may be fine for a power user as yourself, but it doesn't compare to the Amiga A1200 experience. Plug-in, turn on.. boot up. You don't even need a hard drive (though its nicer with one). And software runs off floppy. Wouldn't a modern system with bootable CD-ROMs have similar functionality? :-D
For myself, I prefer to NOT touch Linux at all. I'm NO fan of Linux. (Of ALL the operating systems Linus had to copy.. he had to choose to make a UNIX clone when he really should have developed an AmigaOS clone. Oh well..)
Anyway, several years ago I preordered a Cyberstorm PPC accelerator card (Paid around $1500 for it & $400 for the 060 CPU).
It worked nicely, however, there was no software that supported the PPC, so I eventually sold it (then like 2 months after I sold it software for PPC appeared! Go figure!).
-
I have a 1200T (030 25Mhz 8MB) and a 1200D (030 40Mhz ??MB well flaky).
the Lack of BPPC (and the lack of point getting one of these) means I will get an A1.
I would have had my G3SE by now (d'oh !) but changed me mind when I heard about the XE. I really fancied that G4 on a seperate CPU card !
I like the idea of the SE-Lite, but that isnt under consideration. I could have one in a year or 3 as a 2nd machine, but I'd have to get rid of another of my computers, and I dont wanna do that ! :-(
I'm still after an original Sinclair QL, but I'd probably have to sneak that in the house ! :-o ;-)
-
Pre-Ordered an A1 XE G4.
Hopefully when OS4 get released and the SharkPPCs go into production I shall buy a Entry G3 Shark for my creaky old A1200T / Mediator.
@ AGAFaster... Go your tickets for April 8th yet :-D :-D :-D
-
Naaah they sold out Ages ago !!
I went to the home game though - sat in the Brian Clough lower - not as good as the Trent End !
On't telly int it ?
CU in the Prem !

This is the machine I've been waitng forever for. Well, only since the beginning of the Universe, anyway. So, it's not really that long now.
Initially, I'll have the A1 XE 800MHz, with 2 Gigs. ram., 160 Meg CF, 750 Meg Zip drive, and I need to find out if RAID is supported. Pre-ordered, partial prepaid. Board in about 3 months from now. If I get an accelerator for my A2000, I'll just get 3.1 for it.
How about this question,
Q. Are there any hotdogs out there that will set up their computer to boot off of a 256 Meg. Compact Flash card? No HD, heh heh!!
AmigaOne! 16 Meg CF!!!!! SHOWOFF :-D
BTW, remember how SW used to come on floppies, imagine 32 meg CFs being the cheap norm.
-
When OS 4.0 is realeased I will buy a AOne, G4 of course :-D
-
Put my A1200 in a new tower case (the old one is naff) and use my BlizzPPC to run OS4
-
I'm waiting for OS4...and waiting and waiting....(just like everyone else)
then I will be waiting and waiting for the SHARK PPC.....
I have my A4K in a Power Tower/Mediator setup
and I still need access to my Video Toaster
-
os4 came free with my amigaone so now all i gotta do is wait for it to come through my mailbox :-D
-
Check my signature!!!!
I will also get it for the BlizzardPPC though when it comes available. Will be quite interresting to see that.
-
when all is finished i will get an AOne and OSA4, dont care what AOne, G3, G4 dont mind as long as its an new Amiga.

not possible here as os4 can not support my g-rex4000...
also i believe that the old cyberstorms are way too unstable to be able to run a ppc native os on it for more than a couple of minutes. we all know the heating-problems and instability problems.
>- buy an AmigaOne + OS4
already done so (ordered) ;-)
byebye...
-
Have pre-ordered my AmigaONE G4 but would also be interested to see how OS4 runs on my current Blizzard PPC setup, will also keep this system until everything runs 100% smoothly and error free. To be honest I don't know if I will ever get rid of my current setup - we go back a long way together.

Elwood enthused:
Just to know, what will you do ? :
;-) Since my A4000 is already equipped with a 233Mhz CyberStorm III 604e processor, I’ll be buying Amiga OS 4 for it, first. Once I’ve played around with it for a while, I may or may not purchase an AmigaOne, depending.
Hopefully, that’s a decision I’ll have to face real soon, instead of months from now…
-
I too am keeping my A1200 ppc system will buy os4 for it as well have bought everything new for the A1 will sit them side by side just on different comp tables my imac goes to the kids to play with
-
First SharkPPC and OS4.. after that, if I have loose money, I could buy an A1..
-
I'll definitely have it for my BVPPC060, if a Blizzard version will be available. If it will be better, and/or there will be stunning, exclusive OS4 programs (Hyperion is a game porting company, and I doubt they will make Pegasos titles anytime soon, despite that their older titles I have run on it) I'll venture into an AmigaONE as well. (Presuming I'll have the money by then)
I'm real curious what it has to offer. (Treat me, treat me with new machines, new OSes, that's what we've been waiting for so long and desperately... Am I dreaming? :-) Don't dare to wake me up :-))

I want to buy an AmigaOne and OS4
