Just wondering if OS 4 will ever be completely finished?
Also how does the current released version compare to windows xp and mac os x?
-
Hyperion has stated that the official release could very well
happen before the end of the year. As far as comparison's, I
don't think OS4 is really in the same league at this point,
which might be to OS4's advantage. Obviously the lack of a
fully featured web browser is a big problem. Performance
wise however, OS4 runs very quick, and boots extremely fast.
Once OS4 has had time to mature, it will be a very worthy
replacement to OSX and XP.

I think I read somewhere that it would be done in just "Two More Weeks"!
:crazy:

Except this time, it actually might happen.

Assuming you can use it natively on x86 or Mac hardware.

I meant "replacement" meaning more of a platform replacment vs
just a OS swap. Like OSX is considered a replacement to windows
in that sense even though it currently runs on a different platform.
Unfortunately, the availabilty of Amiga hardware is more of a
bottleneck in achieving that goal than the OS itself. I should
have made that more clear.

Last word I heard was at amiga west and there answer to when it will be release was "when it is done."
THey never implied this year or 20 years from now. However the
guest speaker who is a os4 developer felt the release dhall be
soon =)

@billchase
Well, I meant exactly what I meant, OS4 must become a replacement OS in order to become anything more than what it already is.

IIRC I read it somewhere on AmigaWorld - it was a posting from Rogue, where he mentioned that they try to get it out in time for the christmas business this year.
Hopefully he is more trustworthy than BillMcEwen, who made the same statement 3 years ago (actually not saying which year's christmas business he was talking of)...

I'm sure they will try ;-) , but bearing in mind that the OS4-PR was initially "promised" to Christmas 2 years ago, and first came to users in June last year, better not count on anything.
Better sooner than later though. :-)
