Here is a little binary archive (http://ryanthusar.free.fr/Feelin050819_beta.lha) of Feelin (http://www.gofromiel.com/feelin), just to show where it's development is ;-)
As always, many things have evolved on the low-level side as well as on the cosmetic one, which includes a new way of computing "damaged" areas for optimized and attractive refreshing, PNG alpha channel support, a new decorator and many more...
(http://ryanthusar.free.fr/gofromiel/feelin/images/people/20058017_damir_crystal.png) (http://www.gofromiel.com/feelin/screens.php?show=images/people/hi/20058017_damir_crystal)(http://ryanthusar.free.fr/gofromiel/feelin/images/people/20050815_damir_greengo.png) (http://www.gofromiel.com/feelin/screens.php?show=images/people/hi/20050815_damir_greengo)
This archive is provided "as is" for test purpose, and only includes binaries. It's only a preview, which is why some unfinished features have been disabled. For example, images can only by resized on the fly, which make them not suitable to use as backgrounds. This nice feature will obvisouly be enabled on the "real" release.
Enjoy ! And tell me what you think about it, bugs report are welcomed ;-)

NB: Feelin's memory system was completely rewritten. It's faster, smarter, and even more safe since a "mung wall" feature was builtin.
Although this feature is meant to be optionnal, there is no way to disable it in the included version. I just discovered it after receiving a warning from Feelin, while I was doing bad things (like trashing memory).
You'll see no differences while using Feelin, but this nice feature will cause serious impact on the memory test (in "feelin:demos/memorytest").
That apart, it's all good ;-)

looking great! good work!

I just have one request for future versions: the ability to use external images for window gadgets (close, depth, zoom) or turn off the Feelin custom gadgets.
I use VisualPrefs and made some nice gadget images and I'd like to use those on Feelin windows for consistency.
-
No need to wait for the future, it's already possible ;-) If you want to use Intuition window border's (or ones of a patch), just launch the preference editor, go to "Decorator" and change the cycle menu "decorator class" to "None, use Intuition".
About custom images for window gadgets, this is already possible, but only de decorator "Flatty" allow this.
-
Sounds good.
But there are problems. It seems 5.17 prefs configuration is not compatible with the new version - forcing me to do all those prefs again (very tedious). Also, the decorator window seems too big for my screen and gets all screwed up. The filerequester still asks me to insert SFS: and now it has started asking me for dev:.
(not complaining - just reporting problems ;-) )
-
Nearly all preferences items are now defined in XML format, and colors are defined in HTML style e.g. "shine" or "#FF00FF". I left "loading" compatibility... It should load you old items and convert them to new ones... maybe it doesn't work :-(
About filerequester, I don't know what the problem is, because I don't have a SFS: vloume on my system. On the other hand, I have a "dev:" volume, which is my development partition. Could you please tell me when Feelin ask you for these volumes ?
The filerequester will be completely rewritten in future release, I hope I'll get rid of these problems.
Thanks ++

I get a popup to insert SFS: exactly 6 times every time I change one of the images. It doesn't matter where the original image was located. I have two SFS partitions, but no drives or assigns called SFS:. (the SFS partitions are called DH1: and DH4:)
When trying to run the new Feelin (050819) with 050517 prefs file, I got a crash 80000003 - the only time I ever had a crash with Feelin. (tried it twice to be sure)
Maybe I'll just edit the prefs manually.
-
Strange... do you have Enforcer running ? so I'll be able to locate the bug...

Here is a little patch (http://ryanthusar.free.fr/Feelin050819_beta_fix01.lha) for Feelin050819_beta.
1. dos.library/DupLockFromFH() does not work with WinUAE virtual volumes (and maybe large disks). Because the function was used by FC_Document, Feelin was unable to read XML files, which result in an empty preference editor. This is fixed now.
2. "Prefs" has not been linked properly, resulting in a crash when the program ended. This is fixed now.
One person reported a dimension problem : the preference editor window is too big, ~1500 pixels. Does anyone has the same issue ?

Wow! I didn't know that there was an alternative to AmigaOS that was so functional! This project really looks like it's going somewhere. But what is the estimated system requirements?
-
Feelin is not an alternative to AmigaOS, but rather MUI/ReAction/whatever. The estimated system requirement is OS3, 4Mo. For fancy stuff, you need 8Mo and a gfxcard.

@Gofromiel
