I changed my A1 order back with eyetech in January and added some RAM to it. IIRC when I ordered the 2 x 512Meg Sticks they were either £75 or £80 including the VAT each
Just been back to Eyetechs website and the RAM is now £94.95 including VAT
Can anyone confirm how much they were listed at a few months ago. I've tried Web archive but nothing there.
As they have taken no money which price do they have to honour ?
I wonder how many Earlybird orderers who have order RAM at the same time and may get stung by this.
-
£94.95 is way OTT for ram, but what do you expect from Amiga companies when they want to make a massive profit from cheap off the shelve hardware.
Get the ram elsewhere for around 40% cheaper.
-
Interesting question.
Did you agree a price or get a confirmation of how much your order was ?
On one side, you'd say they should go with the original price,
but on't'other, SDRAM prices are rising arent they ? and Eyetech do have to make something out of this to survive - thats business.
Just been back to Eyetechs website and the RAM is now £94.95 including VAT
so they are updating it then ?! :-P
-
Just found what i wrote down when i order my Ram.
They were £79.95 including Vat, so they have put them up by 15%. Just hope they dont sting me the 15% on each stick.

I ordered an A1XE starter system which was originally specified with 128MB ram. I ordered 512MB ram at extra cost, but the specification has now been changed to include 512MB in the original price. The hard drive is now also 40MB instead of 30MB :) See Eyetech advert in the latest issue of 'Total Amiga' for the full spec.

@jurassicCamper
The latest BIOS update 'cures' previous restrictions that required certain RAM to be used if more than one slot was used. This means that the RAM can be bought just about anywhere.
The smart money is on getting quality brand name RAM rather thay OEM garbage. Stick with Kingston/Crucial/Samsung and you shouldn't go too far wrong.
Hopefully Rose or Olegil can give a few more specific details.
If you read the Register yesterday, you would have seen the story about Amazon and the sub $10 Ipaq (see here (http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/29828.html) ).
The crux of the matter is, that unless they have already charged your card, the price is not fixed and therefor is volatile. I would expect Eyetech to contact the Earlybird buyers to confirm their order before despatch, giving buyers a chance to change their order.

Must get round to subscribing to Total Amiga

@JurassicCamper
Must get round to subscribing to Total Amiga
Likewise. I've sent off for the current edition and I'll subscribe at the end of the month. I wonder how many subscribers they have?

I think its between 500-600

I think I should get one as well...
its been so long since I had an Amiga Mag... :-D
not any more !
I just spoke to Eyetech, and ordered one when she said they were doing them !
PS: they are currently awaiting delivery of the XE boards, whence they will be tested at Eyetech (I got the impression (so take this only as such) that they had passed the manufacturers testing).
Website updates are also on the list of things to do ! (as urgently as time allows !)

Does that mean the little man is waiting at the delivery door for the truck to turn up, or does that mean sometime in the next 6 months.
Obviously the Expectations from this post (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/amigaone/message/25913) are wrong again.

I should hope so unlike Commodores Factory Testing

Managed to updates the prices though.

@Agafaster
For Alans sake, it would be good if the deliveries were to start next week. At least then he will be able to announce this at the Gotenburg show next week.

Maybe he would like to explain why he and co are exploiting Amiga users in to paying very high prices for magical AmigaONE ram.
Think about it for a minute before you come charging in to defend Eyetechs honour.
It is a disgrace.

Be Interesting to know which Kingston module Eyetech are selling for £80 +Vat as there are at least 3 different Kingston ECC 512Meg PC133 modules available from £61 to £68 + Vat at ebuyer.co.uk
Not as if Amiga Dealers can use the "oh they buy hundreds." Just look at their stock levels.
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=UFNQcm9kdWN0U2VhcmNoUmVzdWx0cw%3D%3D&cat_uid=3&subcat_uid=349 (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=UFNQcm9kdWN0U2VhcmNoUmVzdWx0cw%3D%3D&cat_uid=3&subcat_uid=349)
Savings of £22 per module.
I expect if you shop round you'll find it cheaper still.
-
Right. Hopefully this will put things to rest.
The AmigaOne did need to use 'Registered' RAM.
So, the £68 + VAT one is the one Eyetech is selling.
Now, since the BIOS update for the XE now allows for everyday PC133 RAM, where you buy it from is no longer an issue.
ebuyer are a big company and buy memory in huge amounts. Eyetech are not going to place an order anywhere the size of one that ebuyer would (check one the quantities of other Kingston modules, one of them they have over 200 in stock). Therefore expect Eyetech WILL pay more for them.

@jd997uk
Yes Yes Yes we all know about the new version of u-boot.
Its just more tolerant to **SOME** Unregistered 133 Ram.
But if Eyetech are so confident that the board will work without ECC RAM why arnt they offering
it ?

Why would they when they know full well the die hard Amiga users will pay silly prices for standard off the shelve components.
CDRW ATAPI mech 4xW,4xRW,24xR £54.95 (Eyetech)
F1 Yamaha 44x24x44 IDE with DiscT@2 £ 54.05 (Microdirect)
Just price compare and see how they make hugh amounts of money on real cheap hardware just because "It works on Amiga", so there is no way they are going to change.
