Title: Need Help locating a program for A1200 DKB1202 Mem bd.
Post by: LemonAid on August 17, 2005, 09:00:32 PM
I recently purchased an Amiga 1200 with a 16 meg memory expansion board DKB1202. Since the manufacturer has left the planet and it appears no one else in the universe has purchased this board. Maybe thats why they left? Unfortunately this board is worthless without info on clock and memory setup and external co-processor. So any info would help. Also I have gleened from 3 month of internet searches that there is a program put out by DKB specifically for this board called Magicmem, that automates the memory configuration at boot time. I guess memory is reconfigured based upon an active PCMCIA device. If anyone has this board or info about it I would be greatly appreciative to get my hands on that program and/or any info. Also I am trying to find a copy of an article in the Oct 93 issue of Amazing Computing about this board.  :-(

According to Amiga Resource this board can only handle 8MB, not 16 : http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/search.pl?product=dkb1202&company=
Sorry I can't help you with the software, but are you sure you need it? FPU is usually a question of just plugging it in (unless is has to run at a different speed then the 68030).

The MagicMem utility can be found on the "LSD LEGAL TOOLS DISK 143" maybe someone will thave that on amiga.org.

You may also want to ask HERE (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=19680) as this guy is selling one, you may get lucky and hell send you the software.

Correct - just overlooked that. RAM boards for plain 1200 cannot hook up >8 MB due to the 24 bit address bus of the EC020.

The jumper settings are printed quite plainly on the board, so if you don't have a PCMCIA setup that collides with the memory you should be fine.

First let me say thanks to all with your suggestions. Years ago I purchased one of the first (Under 10,000) Amiga 1000's produced. I still have my baby in the closet, well kept and still 'grokes' as if new born. Anyway I've been rebitten and decided to get a 1200 to play around with. Its really good to see the Amiga community still intack.
As for your suggestions: unfortunately I've been there and done that already. The magicmem program that was mentioned by Coolit is not the correct one, just a naming concidence. The main reason I am in want is that without this program I have to disconnect this board if I want to use the PCMCIA port. Which of course I do. If I plug in the board the PCMCIA port is no longer recognized. Apparently the MagicMem program would auto configure the memory so that both could co-reside without conflict. Also there is a built in clock on this board of which I have no idea how to get it active and usable.
Again thanks to all who have responded, I appreciate it.

Hi,

I have the same memory board (I bought it new for my A1200 in 1993). I also have the box and the disk that came with it!

The only downside is that I'm overseas until the start of October, so if you can wait that long I can send you a copy of the relevant program...

Cheers,

Mike.
