Title: Laptop memory problems

I have a Dell Latitude CPi with 128 MB - 2 x 64 MB DIMMS
The thing is rececently, it only sees 64MB of it, and as a result Win 2000 crawls. I've blasted the DIMMS and the slots with compressed air, but haven't tried cleaning the contacts with alcohol.
Do DIMMS just stop working like that?

I've just thought, I should swap them and thus see if its the DIMM or the slot that's buggered.

I had exactly the same problem not long ago with a latitude CPt I bought for the good lady. It seems slot A has a problem, it will run fine with either SODIMM in slot B.

I simply went for the buy a compatible 256MB single SODIMM option...

How much did you pay for that? There's a bird at work looking to upgrade, and if anyone can find a good price it will be you.

I've had the same problem with my newish Powerbook and it seems the SODIMMs I got had the wrong density, whatever that is.

It seems there are lots more variables to take into account when it comes to SODIMMs apart from the speed and number of pins.

Actually, somebody here (alas I can't quite recall who) put me in touch with Kahlon, a US supplier that undercut even the cheapest european supplier I found. What's more, it's tested memory too, so you know it is going to be compatible.

The only thing to be wary of is the import tax. I just got a pair of 256MB sticks for an Acer Travelmate 220, with 5-6 days international delivery came to 108 USD (about 61 UKP). HM's custom and excise shoved import tax (and a subsequent clearence fee by ParcelFarce) which was an additional 22 UKP all told.

Compared to UK suppliers I have looked at, this was still *way* cheaper - you'd pay as much for generic memory in some cases.

I swapped the DIMMS, machine wouldn't boot.
So I swapped them back...and guess what?

The machine doesn't boot :((((

The only thing I can think, is that I fried the chips with static
