Hi all,
Remeber back then when new AMIGA designs were being looked at and engineered?
Just wondering, was the AMIGA Walker ever made and if so, how did it perform?? Did it have any special nice bits and how compatible was it :)

There were only a handfull prototypes around. Never released for customers.

Actually, a load of it was scrounged from the web!

I've never really tested it but it's meant to be slower than a stock A1200, the timing on Scala was somewhat erratic.
It's a prototype though so you expect this sort of thing.
Hmm, I should really get that HD fixed, I never did extract the ROM yet...

It´s indeed a shame that this piece of architecture got lost. The plans should have been made avaliable to the public as it hasn´t got anymore use to keep it on the shelves ... maybe a wizard here could turn it into a working thing :-o

I remember thinking like everyone else that it was really ugly, looked like a vacuum cleaner etc.
It's grown on me though. I wouldn't mind having that one on my desk. :)

I liked the idea about it's modularity. If you wanted more features, you just plugged in anoter module, and your case grew a bit! :-D

You're going to hate this:
66 Euros (actually 60 + 6 commission).
That included a keyboard, mouse and monitor.
The diagrams of the other designs were free :-P

There were loads of people at the auction but nobody knew what it was, I very nearly missed it though as I didn't understand what they were saying and it was actually sold! However once I said this they re-held the bidding and I won :-)
That wasn't the best of it though. There was an entire Commodore museum of dozens of machines and it was sold as a job lot for (I think), a couple of hundred euros. There was quite a few brand new machines there including a 1988 A500 and a whole heap of A1200s (several of which were brand new boxed), Then there was an A3000, mint condition CD32, CDTV, PET + disc drives, C64s VIC 20, VC20, CMB 115 a large pile of monitors and a whole heap of other stuff. I also remember a really weird A500 in there somewhere which may have had a prototype casing.

One thing that surprises me to this day is the level of interest in the Walker. Looking at he web stats this thread alone generated 250 unique visitors to the Walker pages!

The Amiga was always ahead of it's time...
They produced the first 32bit game console with a CD-Rom...
and I would've bought me one of these Walker, as I was a firm believer in the Amiga, starting out from the first time I heard that CBM bought Lorraine...
