nice item, not sure 'brand new' is quite accurate though. 'As new' or 'like new', fine, but not 'brand new'... sorry...

What? You mean they don't make 8088/8086 Bridgeboards any more?!  :-o

Haven't you guys noticed? Everything Amiga related on eBay is brand new and rare, if not very rare. In a month or so we will go to the next level; brand new, very rare and the only one of its kind!

I hope he kept the cat away from the board, their static load can quickly ruin the board - maybe that's what makes it 'rare'...  :lol:

Maybe the cat is to keep mice away from the 286 bridgeboard ? Because there only a vague chance of windows running on it ?

P.S. Windows would run actually, but the cat would be dead before it loaded.....

The fingers on the card look like it has been installed in an Amiga at some point.

I find it hard to believe that someone would have bought this item for large coin and then never touched it.  It's only brand new when you get it from the dealer, once you bought it, it's 'used'.

'bout 15 years ago I was in an Amiga dealer, and they had a stack of these things piled on the floor, for like $100 each.  Was tempted, but upon remembering it was an XT, why bother?

On ebay, there are no shortage of people who would jump at something like this.  I've seen old PCs that were obsolete junk go for large cash at an auction, because people think that they are getting a deal on "a computer".

I'm surprised effy doesn't have more info on this board.

The description looks a bit vague to me (the pix aren't showing on my system, is his girlfriend holding the board?).

Post by: Effy on August 01, 2005, 07:56:45 AM
As far as I know the package came from a shop that closed down (now why would that be in these fantastic Amiga days) and the card was never even used and only taken out of the box to make pictures of it. It has a brandnew 5,25" drive in it, never used. Of course this doesn´t have much use anymore these days ...

Cyberus : the difference between "brandnew" and "as new" or "like new" is that in the last two cases they must have been used before but still look in good shape. It´s like Vesalia still sells A1200´s that they found in an unknown warehouse and had been there for years after the production has stopped. Then how do you want to call those A1200´s they sell at Vesalia ?? Used ?? As new and therefor used ?? Like new because they look new but are years old though never used ??? What word can I use which doesn´t offend people but still tells the story ???  :-?

bludger : if you want more info then feel free to ask. There is no secret to that card  :-)

Zac67 : no, Frits didn´t touch the board at all so no static electricity could have beeen transferred between the cat and the board. And for your information, Frits died two days ago of age and a lot of pain, couldn´t get his breath anymore so we had to put him to sleep forever ... so no more pictures of him ...

Thanks Keropi, having your favourite animal be put to sleep forever hurts a lot ... not very macho, I know, but I am far from that ...

@effy

Hate to bring the news but vesalia does NOT sell new A1200's at all. Not to me at least. Where my 1200 came from I don't know. But is seems composed of used parts. So 'used' would be my term for my a1200. It nice and white and all. But have nowhere near new. Assuming they just picked one of the pile for me you can say they are probably all like that. Mine had no warranty seals, two of the plastic clips were broken, a screw inside was missing, the box had some wear, the software and books were missing, a luxurious mouse was supplied (non standard, this isnt a bad thing) and the system was secured in its box by papers instead of those white things on each side. Not really new now is it?

But this is way off topic.

Dale was in a couple of the pictures when I sold my moped some time ago...  Cute pets put bidders at ease. ;-)

Uh yeah, unless we're talking about precision electronics.

@Effy

First of all, sorry about your cat.

Brand new would mean something just bought the other day, like new would be something like your item, an item that has been away in storage since it was bought back in the days.

If this particular item is rare I wouldn't know of, but let's face it, the word RARE is used often. I still remember the PowerFlyer ZIV you had advertised as rare, even though it can still be bought new. Anyway, if the word RARE is used in an auction about Amiga hardware is just overlook it, and the word doesn't add any value to the item in my eyes as it would have if the item actually is rare.

DoctorQ : I agree on most points, shall review my own view on the word "brandnew"  :-x (never too old to learn)  :lol: About the rare part, the card itself is far from rare but the total package is since it´s in original box with original manuals and a brandnew, sorry, like new drive  :-)

EDIT : found out there still wasn´t any bid so I rewrote the title to THIS one (http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8208433721)  :-) I hope this brings again some peace to this thread as it was not meant to cause this kind of commotion about the word "brandnew". I now realize that it has a slightly different meaning than I thought it had ...

And DoctorQ, thanks for your simpathy for our cat ...

Three things come to mind;

1. I got one of the 'bad' pile they need to get rid of aswell.

2. The stack of A1200's from Asia is an urban legend.

3. The quality of the stack of A1200's is not like we would like it to be.

anyone else some idea's? This could turn into a nice 'stack from asia'-poll :-).

@ Effy

Sorry, I didn't start the thread in order to criticise the use of the words 'brand new'. I started the thread because I thought it was cool that there was a cat in the pictures.
As an afterthought, I mentioned the 'brand new' thing.
Sorry to hear the little chap died :-(

Hey, i was looking at the other stuff you've got here and i was just wondering, are you the guy who puts all the stuff next to your girlfriend's breasts?:inquisitive: I've been wondering about this for some time, and i've noticed one guy always putting his items next to a pair of tits.. Hmmm.. Seems strange to me.. I wouldn't buy something from someone who uses tits to sell an item.. Hmmm.. Just wondering.. :inquisitive:

Eh, I am the one who manages to convince his girlfriend to pose for me, though I have to follow her rules specificly not to show everything, only partial nudity !! For most boys it won´t make any difference but it does to her  :-)

Adz : thanks dude  :-D
