so I've read some people got upset with the idea someone throwing things away rather than to put it up for grabs.
Well to cheer you guys up; Today a collegue of mine approached me. He was cleaning his attic. Guess what?
A500 1MB chip 2MB fast A590 with harddisk (size unknown) Mouse PSU and Joystick. For free.
We agreed that I come and get it after holiday season.
So another 500 is saved from going to the trash. Now all I have to do is find some good use for it.
Perhaps I put it up for grabs ;)
Hope this will cheer you all up.

A guy at work gave me an A500 with a cardboard box and a shopping bag full of games etc for free. The A500 works perfectly, but most of the disks are no good.
At a car boot sale I saw an A1200 and just out of curiosity asked how much it was. The woman selling it said 'Oh, it's only a keyboard - £4'. I already have a towered A1200 so didn't bother - but now I think I missed an opportunity to get a spare :-)

The neighbor gave me his A500 with monitor and external floppy.
It pisses me off when people throw things away. Recycle or die.

Yes get these whenever you can, you never know - she might have taken it home and tossed it in the bin!
Around me, whenever there is a hard rubbish collection the truck comes around and crushes everything - I try to save what I can, but I bet there are a few very nice bits of kit that end up mashed into tiny bits :(

How about putting periodic ads in the newspaper?
Looking for all unwanted working and non-working Amiga computers, equipment and software. Will take away for free.
-
Argo: I've done that before and still do:)

A man nicknamed "keropi" which I met through #amigahellas in IRC gave me for free a Full Size Towerhawk for my A1200 and 3 joysticks!!! :-o
-
wow, that "keropi" dude sounds interesting.... LOL :-D
what's the point in keeping "rare" stuff that you don't need?
-
@TheMagicM
How well has it worked?
-
Funny you should mention this, as I actually PM'd the person in question and offered to pay him US$30 not to throw it away in the hope I could find someone who would pick it up and enjoy an Amiga on me, alas, he never bothered to reply :-(

Tried that a while ago, got a few calls, one bloke even offered me a bog stock A1200 for AU$900, however most of the callers simply wanted to try and screw as much money as they could out of me, even on stuff that wasn't working, in the end I gave up.

Sounds like a good offer if you ask me! Every 12 year old computer is worth at least $1000, he's giving you a good deal!
Seriously, I've seen that happen quite often, either people throw their Amiga's out, thinking they're worth nothing, or they think that even though they're 10 years old, it's still a computer, so it must be worth $500 (or more). I found out yesterday that my next door neighbour threw out their Amiga 1000 with Phoenix motherboard, 1084s, A570 and thousands of disks (many of which were copied from me in the first place). Not happy. :pissed:

That is indeed something seen alot of times.
'This set cost me over $2500,- (10 years ago but they sort of forget that mostly) so offers below $600,- are not taken seriously'.
Anyway I watch second hand trade here closely and I'm surprised to see how mutch old commodores go for sometimes.

i wish i could get an A1200 for £4.
been try to get one for years.
(always get out bid on ebay)

Anybody ever got a decent spec Amiga for free? I mean, a 500 with 590 is pretty good, but... a 4000 with expansions?
-
Yeah I got an A4000 for free last year
No expansions though, just a stock A4000/40 with a 512MB HD
-
That's pretty good going. I once bought a 1200 stock with 1230 board for a plEuro ;) because the lady at the thriftshop thought it was an old keyboard from an age when those things actually were that big and clunky. Also got the 4000 gratis because the battery looked hairy. Both run fine.
