Hello everyone,
After a few days of searching the forums on this site, I finally gave in and unpacked the ol' A3000. 8-) I'm excited  to learn about the new Amiga Forever package; this and the sound on my beloved machine inspired me to look into resurrecting over ten years worth of work I had done using various Amigas (A500,A3000,A1200,A4000.)
Last night I booted up with a bit of a fuss. At first, kickstart tried to load, but then the graphics got really messed up..no loading continued. I had read about dead battery problems on the forums and got my Kickstart disk to boot with.
Everything worked like a dream. That old workbench seemed to keep itself warm for me after years of neglect...
I worked on it for several hours without any troubles.
Today was a different story...
:-? After repeated tries to boot it up, even with the kick start disk, the graphics got really messed up, eventually giving me the grey screen.
I have pulled it apart and proceeded to disconnect the battery, hoping tomorrow I'll find a replacement to install.
Wish me luck! and any feedback would be helpfull.
Thanks......Wizardo (My old Ultima III Character)

Welcome to Amiga.org

Wish I had an Amiga 3000 (even in storage :)
Welcome from a n00b too!

Welcome...your description sounds like a fairly typical battery leak to me. The battery hadn't been stressed (used) so it hadn't leaked. When you booted the machine and ran it the battery tried to charge and began to leak on the motherboard. It's always best to just go ahead and yank the battery when you take a machine like that out of storage (or before putting it in storage is even better).
Hope things get working for you....I've been rather lucky. I've gotten a 3000 and 4000 from EBay with no battery issues.

Greetings and welcome to A.org :-)
Tis a lovely machine the A3000, probably the best Commodore ever produced (excluding the A3000T) :-D

at least you still got it!
I gave A3000 to an Amiga dealer in 2000(im not gona mention who)to get the battery changed and upgrade ect.I waited for months for it 10 months to be exact. Then i had to go overseas for 1 year, which i explained to him and he said it be ok.Well on my return I find out that he got rid of it!!
It`s like someone tore my heart out and flushed it down the crapper.
Moral of this story BE CAREFULL WHO YOU GIVE YOUR MACHINE TO,you may never getit back!!!

@ mbuelar
That is a truly sad tale. I hope the dealer goes bankrupt.
@ noobs
Good to see ol' Amigans return to the fold. I am a returning Amigan too, I wonder how many of us there are.

Wellcome Wizardo :-)
@mbueler
woud be useful for all us, to know who is the Amiga dealer! He's still in business?
-
no he doesent do repairs any more (as far as i know) and i dont want to talk bad things about ppl who did alot of good in our community.
he did try to explain and as i understood it was due to Amiga Inc. stuffing him around.(f_ck them, after all i did for them attitued).
sorry for my bad spelling,lol
anyways i still have A500,A600,2xA1000,A2000 and standard CD32. the A3000 was the best amiga i ever got to see runnig in real live!
I wish i could get my hands on a second hand A1200,i keep getting out bid on ebay.grrr lol
I am very poor.

Hi mbueler,
Its ironic that you responded to my thread saying that you are getting out-bid on ebay. Last night, late, as I was searching for help on the forums (which I did get today,) and as I was holding vigil for a dying computer I've had for close to 15 years (during many of which it provided me with a humble living,) I sought out a temporary replacement (the A1200 you mentioned) in order to at least port over all my files/programs to my expectant Amiga Forever equipted laptop. It seems,as you mentioned in your post, you have several Amigas to choose from already. Perhaps I would ask, without sounding to rash, that you let me get this one...for an old schooler's sake (as I might be called in this day and age,) who has logged on too many hours to this wonderful creation called the Amiga for him to see all his work trully go down the {S-blip-} hole. Your consideration would be trully appreciated.

I hope you checked for battery leaks...

I am also gonna return to the Amiga.
I am gonna go visit Nevada and leave sunday morning, and when I return, i should have my Amiga 1200 back! :D Though its not upgraded except for the HD disk drive and the dataflyer xds to connect 3.5 ide drives.
I am hoping to get the 060 for it sometime...which i MAY do if its around $250.....
The more Amigans, the better. :-)
