Title: Amiga Forever and WinUAE V1.0
Post by: gafstu on July 25, 2005, 09:34:42 PM
Guys,
I have just installed amiga forever 6.0.  I notice that the version of UAE used is 0.8.25.  I have tried replacing this with version 1.0 however things get a bit unstable when i do so.  Has anyone managed to do this successfully?

Thanks

1.0 is a bugged mess and has a fair ammount of issues.

get 0.9.92, that was last stable version.

Hum,
cant say I’ve noticed the latest version being unstable in any way (though it isn’t as fast as the older versions) but that maybe due to me not using it with AF6...

(I just booted up WB from a virtual floppy, and installed from my OS3.9 CD…)

Mad Mat, 'a bugged mess'?  Have you even tried using the bloody emulator recently?

Could you be more specific please? Have you reported anything to the Author of WinUAE?

I haven't had any problems with it at all, though Blobby's right. It does seem a bit sluggish, compared to the older versions.

Just my 2p.

yes of course ive used it, i even still have an instalation of it, and yes the issues have been reported to the auther.  1.0 is not better then 0.9.94.

to name a few issues: 040 emu is broken, this is most apparant in running whd games under it. games/demos no longer works properly under 040 emu.

p96 emu is broken, even with the new winuae rtg replacment lib, at random times the mouse pointer can smear the screen.

screen switching broken, very annoying when the emu switches between desktop, aga screen, p96 screen only to look somewhere in between.  Lack of memory protection in windows xp forces a system reset as the pc becomes locked.

these problems and others dont exist in previous version/s.

I've never experienced these problems... Everything's fine here. What the author said about it?

I apologise for doubting you.  Whilst you are correct in stating that Picasso96 bugs did crop up in v1.0 these are - I believe - isolated to certain chipsets; certainly, I have yet to witness the screen corruption that you describe.  Rest assured that this was one of the fixes listed in the WinUAE v1.1b1 changelog.

As for broken 040 functionality, I do not see any fixes related to this in the past four v1.1 betas, which suggests Toni is unaware of such problems - again, I encourage you to provide some detailed information.

Finally, the ALT+Tab screen switching problem is something I have yet to experience; either with the current release or any previous versions.  However, in my opinion NT-based Windows memory protection is bloody good; especially in the latest incarnations, so to suggest it is non-existant is highly questionable...as is the notion that WinUAE v1.0 has not improved steadily since v0.9x

Anyway, it is not my intention to enter into a war of words with you, I just feel one must pay credit where credit is due.  WinUAE is arguably one of the finest examples of free, GPLd software, and simply cannot be taken foregranted.

Take it easy,
James

I've had this problem for a while (prior to v1.0) -- however, version 1.0 made it much worse.  Creating a new config file helped, but it didn't make the problem completely go away.

Not a hugh problem, since it doesn't happen all the time, and can be cured by resetting the emulation.

I haven't noticed any other problems (but then again, I haven't done a lot of "testing" lately).

Are there any nice people out there who have a configuration file for winuae v1.0 for use under the OS3.9 mode of amiga forever 6.0?  I am having a few problems getting mine configured! thanks
