Title: PearPC and AmigaOS 4
Post by: asian1 on July 24, 2005, 12:55:38 AM
Valhalla had announced on Moobunny about running AmigaOS 4 on PearPC emulator.
Is this true or just a hoax/scam?
What about the performance of the emulator on X86 vs the real AmigaOne?

Valhalla:
download experimental PearPC 0.3.1 source
Dump Amiga Rom to file, e.g. > amiga_uboot1.0.1.bin
put in /modules
make ISO of OS4pre CD eg > os4b.bin
put in /hardfile
configure with:
configure -b "/modules/amiga_uboot1.0.1.bin" -d0[rwed] "/hardfile/os4b.bin" -c video.x
make
make install!

Wow, this would be fantastic if it was true - if anyone has the resources to test (mainly the software), I would be very interested to know what happens...

If you do not plan on owning OS4 & Amiga One stay away from it.  If it is the case it will destroy all that was done by Eyetech & Hyperion in last years.
I HOPE they sue everyone that uses it includign the pathetic dealer that might have gotten it to work.
Anyways, to all here buy the real A1 dont' try to settle for less.

Not a person in his sane mind would believe any of the crap written on Moobunny. I only wonder why this asian1 guy thinks that the Amiga.org users should know more, instead of checking by himself?

From the latest changelog (http://cvs.sf.net/viewcvs.py/pearpc/pearpc/ChangeLog?rev=1.88&view=markup), made 2 days ago, there is no mention of AmigaOS at all.

some how this doesn't suprise me or disappoint me either. Personally I'd just as soon download a new handy dandy AROS iso though.. I wouldn't be infringing on someone's proprietary work, not that I wish they wouldn't port it to an intel/amd cpu..

Nothing to worry about. It is a hoax.

Not to say that I wouldn't LOVE to own a new amiga (be it PPC or intel-based), doesn't this view seem a bit short-sighted (or at least overly-militant).  The hardware specs at this point are not going to draw users to AmigaOne systems.  The drawing factor is going to have to be the OS.  I'd be very willing to shell out for OS4 if I could run it under an emulator (or an OS4-Intel or an OS4 for Mac Mini) until a stable hardware platform is available (on a regular basis so that I didn't feel like I was buying a one-off).

I think it's not very important: PearPC is a neat piece of software but it's not intended to replace real hardware, i've not tested it personnaly but was interessed by, i've read everywhere that it is very slow, almost unusable even with a fast PC !

Why would you need to include the OS4 image in the configure procedure? Apart from the reason that this is utter crap.

@jlariv8957
Well, you can quote me when I say that using PearPC with OSX was very usable and quite responsive (AMD64 3500+, 1GB RAM); definately nowhere near the level of doubt some have expressed.

@terminator4
I'm not trying to be controversial when I say this but how would trying out a warez version of OS4 on PearPC help destroy the platform if it is being used by those that do not plan on owning OS4 & Amiga One?

@tangletown

I have installed MacOSX under pearpc on my Athlon 3000+ Box, and it´s very usable. With the jit improved soon to come, could be realistic the usage of os4 under pearpc.
See ya! :-D

I ran MaxOS X using PearPC for two months on my 3200 Althon64 (as my primary OS). Ran very well and allowed me to get a good idea of what a modern Mac is like. Fast and responsive. I was so impressed, I decided to get a real Mac :-)

Hi all!

I'm sorry to say that this is fake... I downloaded this one on emule, and the os4.bin file is a divx movie file... I read through it which a hex editor, and found out.

The fun part is that the movie I Howard Stern with a lady masturbating in his studio, and she climaxes about 50 times.... :-)

Too bad though, I would really like to test OS4 on my computer before I eventually buy it.

So my question for you devs/coders out there, will we see OS4 on PearPC in reasonable time you guess???

Have a nice day!
