Hi all
I have just installed Syndicate on my A1200 and am unable to run it. I have installed Syndicate using WHDLoad and when I try to run it I get the following error: Can't allocate ExpMEM.
Does anyone know what this means?
My Amiga is a bog standard A1200 with a 4Gb hard drive installed running WB 3.1
Thanks

you probably need more RAM, especially FAST which you don't have
-
Yep. More RAM is definitely in order. As a temporary measure, disable the PRELOAD tooltype. You might get it running, but any disk access performance will be very bad.
-
This might be a silly question but as a noob how do I disable the PRELOAD tooltype?
Cheers

Single click the Syndicate icon (to select it), Then press the right mouse button and go to the icon menu at the top of the screen and select "infomation".
In the window that appears, Look for the word "PRELOAD" and click it. That line will now appear in the empty space at the bottom of the window (you can now edit it). Enclose the entire line in a set of brackets and press return/enter, The click on the save button.
The line should look something like this.
(PRELOAD......)

For a bog standard A1200, your far better of using the hd installer that comes with the game and running from wb without the need of whdload.

Syndicate wasn't an AGA game so won't need a lot of memory. Compare 512KB of an A500 to 2,048KB of an A1200 and I'd say there's something else at fault.
I couldn't get Syndicate to work on my Blizzard 1230-IV 50Mhz - it was always too fast and would crash at random intervals. Needless to say it's even worse on Blizzard 1260.
While we're on the subject of Syndicate, even though the Atari Jaguar version has more colours and runs on the same 68000 processor (albeit with 2x super chips helping it out) the A500 one is actually better! The Amiga one has animated interludes and intro, a pulsing noise in the background, smoother scrolling and crisper sound samples.
Also, did you know that by pressing `D' on the keyboard you can self destruct?
:-D

Well I give up, I have tried removing the Preload and still the same problem.
It might be worht mentioning that I have to use WHDLoad to install as I found the disks in my loft from when I owned my 1st amiga, there was no install disk with it just the game disks, also the original disks won't load (Probably due to the ammount of dust when stored) So being a n00b and as I own the original I downloaded a WHDLoad image and used that.
The only thing I can think of is that the WHDLoad image is broken.
I will keep trying and I am sure something will pop up :)
Thanks for all the help

IIRC, Theme Park had no specific "install" disk... This also being a Bullfrog game, perhaps the same applies (I do recall that they both invalidated my hard drive as a matter of routine... Grrr.) If you haven't already, check out the contents of each disk from the Workbench, starting with the last disk.

I tried this and I still have the same problem. FastRAM should not be a problem here, my configuration is: A4000 040/25, 2Mb chip, 16Mb fast ram.
Some of my games (not all) come with this error :(
Suggestions? :)

Syndicate has a working hd install on one of the disks, i recall installing it on an a600 last year.. it was very slow install though.. Game worked great once installed.

I use to play Syndicate very often.
The install applet is in the 1st or 2nd disk (don't remember quite now). It works with any standard Amiga so far. Even with 030 accel. boards. Dunno about >040 ones.
Booting from the disks the game runs like a charm. I also have issues running from hd. With or without WHDLoad.
