I got a cheapo low profile gfx card off ebay. My housemate tested it in his machine, and it works like a charm. However, it didn't come with low -profile brackets so it'll fit my IBM Netvista - where can I get these from?
I've tried ebay, misco, dabs, amazon, microdirect, ebuyer, etc etc. Am I using the wrong search terms or are these things as rare as hens teeth?
Thanks in advance

Hi there,
I dont know what a bracket is but if you are talking about those metal thing that hold the card in place, I think that the best way to find them is to buy an extra-super-duper cheap no use card an get its brackets.
-
Must say I have never seen one for sale individually, they are almost always bundled along with these half profile cards.
(most of them are custom anyway, the location of the vga connector and or the TV out differs on most cards)
Have one laying around, but it is still attached to a Geforce4MX 64mb agp card.... Interested?
-
Indeed, they do seem to be fairly rare. A quick google search turned this (http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=308167&cks=ASS&assoc=D8029637-0DDA-48DA-9BA1-03B0D58EDEA7) up, but I'm not sure how much this will help. What sort of Gfx card is it?

Yeah I hadn't thought of that. Although the problem is it would have to be a card with the same connectors as the card I have.
In fact, to use all three connectors I would need two brackets

That is what I was starting to believe...

True, I had thought of that, which is why I was starting to think that its gonna be hard to find one (or two)

Perhaps actually, what did you have in mind?
@Darklight
ndeed, they do seem to be fairly rare. A quick google search turned this up, but I'm not sure how much this will help. What sort of Gfx card is it?
Thanks for the link, but its the wrong combo unfortunately. Its a Sapphire Radeon 9600SE - the DVI and TV out sockets are on the board, and there's a ribbon cable attached to VGA, so I need a plate with DVI and TV...
Thanks for your help everyone, I think/hope I will find one, its just that it will be a pain in the arse!!

What's the Norwegian for 'Low Profile Bracket'?
Then I can google for it :-)
-
Hmmm, i followed the link given above and now i know what you need.
I suggest: Do it the Amiga way:
Create one! Or you can modify the one you already have!
All you need is a Hacksaw (a saw for metals) and some sandpaper (also known as garnet paper) or a file (not a file in a computer, a FILE - those things you can "scratch" metal surfaces. Like the ones women carry to "scratch" their nails all the time and drive you mad... The only difference is that this kind of file is more useful than the one women carry ...)
Well, that's the amiga way. If you can't buy it, do it yourself :-P

Here you go. (http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=308167&cks=SER) Don't know how well it'll fit your card, though... You could always e-mail them and ask if they can get 9600SE compatible brackets too.
-
Couldn't you simply email the card manufacturer's support dept for a replacement bracket?
-
Alright, you may just be in luck.
Here's (http://www.tradepc.co.nz/product.asp?numRecordPosition=8&P_ID=726&strPageHistory=cat&strKeywords=&SearchFor=&PT_ID=240) a site that sells them for Powercolor 9600SE cards with the DVI and TV-out connectors. I'm assuming that it would most likely be the same as your Sapphire card. They're in New Zealand though :-P They don't have a picture up, but I'd assume you could find one.
EDIT - This (http://totalpc.co.nz/store/index.php?cPath=139) site has both the DVI/TV-Out and the VGA low profile brackets for the Powercolor cards. Once again, it's in NZ though. I haven't been able to find them anywhere else :-?
-
Thanks for all your help everyone. I have emailed Sapphire European support, and I'll see what they say. Then I'll see what the shop in Kiwiland has to say after that...
-
Where are You from?
Google is very helpfull:
New Zealand (http://www.google.com/search?q=low+profile+bracket+site%3A.nz)
United Kingdom (http://www.google.com/search?q=low+profile+bracket+site%3A.uk)
Denmark (http://www.google.com/search?q=low+profile+bracket+site%3A.dk)
Australia (http://www.google.com/search?q=low+profile+bracket+site%3A.au)
-
I tried google of course! It was one of the first things I did....
But I can find low profile brackets for network cards, pci cards with low profile brackets etc, even low profile brackets for GeForce cards....
-
Just make one it'd be less hassle.
-
I'm still looking, but I've decided to hack my own, the thing is, I want a blank low-profile plate to do it on.
The blanking plates that came with the machine are as flimsy as {bleep}
Where I can I find a stupid bleedin' blanking plate in the UK?
-
:bump:
Hacked the current one okay, but still looking for the correct low-profile blanking plates. Also, VGA connector is loose ATM

@ Cyberus,
If you can't find one, let me know. I'll see if I can't scrounge one up from Electronic Parts Outlet for you and just mail it to you. Can't do anything, until payday, though, which is this coming Friday.
:-)
