Title: Very disappointed in Grasshopper LLC and Pagestream.
Post by: matt3k on July 14, 2005, 10:02:44 PM
Grasshopper LLC has recently deceived me.  They claimed that the MOS Beta was buggy but usable.  I ordered it and downloaded it.  All it came with was a couple of test files and no executable.

I have made repeated attempts to contact and clarify the situation with them and I have never had any response.  I know they are a small company but this behavior is simple inexcusable.

I'm posting this here because I'm very frustrated with them and wanted all of you to know this.

Are Grasshopper LLC the people who program Pagestream or are they just distributors?

This certainly isn't on!

:-?

At the time of this writing there are three persons on MorphZone with this same sad story.  (matt3 is one of the three)

Until this point I had though PageStream and it's author/reseller being respectable people.  :-?

@ matt3k,

Wow. I just finished a reply to you over at AW.net and you've posted the exact same thing here now, too!  I bet it's over at ANN, too!

Well, here's the quoted reply I gave to your message over at AW.net. When one considers what you were told by Grasshopper sales versus what you have concluded based on that, one can't help but notice a disconnect.

@painter & Matt3K

Painter: same here. I ordered the OS4 PPC version within a few days of its original announcement. Since I already owned the 68k version anyway, I eventually called up Grasshopper sales, and explained that I wanted to forget the 4.1 PPC and go direct to a 5.x PPC/OS4 version.

No problem! Dan let me pay the tiny price difference for the upgrade to 5.x from 4.1. Since I already had the "cross-grade" to PPC paid for, that's all there was to it..

Matt3K: You've taken some rather neutral statements and managed to inflate them with a lot of implication. After something like 15 years of business with Deron, I dare say the implications were not intended by Grasshopper, but a misinterpretation on your part.

Considering what a tiny market _EITHER_ of our platforms is, we can be happy Deron bothers at all for either of us. And, BTW, you _SHOULD_ subscribe to the email list. You'd be aware how close the MorphOS version is to completion if you were reading there. If a last minute glitch changed the expected release date, it's no surprise that sales thought it was arleady posted for download, when in fact, it wasn't really ready yet.

@joannak:

Oh, OK, make it four sites. When would matt3k ever have time to use PgS. anyway? He's too busy spamming the forums.

Really, it does sound strange that he can't make 4.1 68k run on his Peg. Other Peg/MOS users post in the Pagestream mail list, and they're using the 68k version.

I copied this from Amigaworld.net:

I'm truly upset for 2 reasons which couldn't be a misunderstanding on my part.

1. They said I would be using the new MUI beta version but would not guarantee how buggy it was, and would recommend not using for mission critical work but, for fun. They even offered, to their defense, that the 68k version would work under MOS and I could wait. But I wanted to support the company since I've been a user of the 68k version for years, so I bought it. This may have been a misunderstanding on their part as to the status or download of the MUI beta, but I understood crystal clear that I would be buying that version.

2. Not to return repeated phone calls and emails for 2 months, no matter how small of an organization you are, is just poor client service. Why offer a support email if you NEVER answer it. Even if I did misunderstand, which is not the case, why wouldn't they have contacted me to clarify the situation ? I gave them multiple times to clarify the situation.

I was a big fan of Pagestream and Grasshopper, but in this current light I have to stand behind my statements.

In case the MorphOS version of Pagestream doesn't start on your system, simply reboot from your MorphOS CD and register your copy of Pagestream there. After that, it will start within your normal setup as well.

Furthermore, you have to set the stack at least to 8192 - either by CLI or by copying and renaming your old PS4 icon.

Bill,

System continues to post 'news' items which all link to Vesalia products, without any hint on their profile that this is a Vesalia advertising account.

You're currently resurrecting an 8+ year old threads in order to maintain your critical front towards Deron.

These are two of the reasons why I don't bother visiting Amiga.org very often anymore.

If you can't administer the place with a dispassionate hand then you really should think about handing on the reins to someone who can, or stop posting yourself for a while, or create a non-admin account for the pursuit of your personal agenda(s).

You're pissed at Deron, we get it! Continually chipping in to every discussion mentioning his name here and on Morphzone.org doesn't help your position, and in fact just makes it look like you are muck-raking.

Consider: should we start resurrecting the many DiscreetFX 'News Announcements' that have turned into nothing? I would expect that Deron-related threads would soon be swamped off the front-page.

Best regards

Rich

@Boot_WB

I did PM you right away. This developer continues to scam the public and scammed me to the tune of over $5,000 plus over $30,000 in lost sales. People that were ready to buy the finished product. Sure maybe some of them would not have followed through but I still get asked all the time and it adds up to a lot. Unlike Deron I don't sell a product that has no shipping date. Why you defend him is beyond me. I have corrected the  Vesalia advertising account now that you made me aware of it. If you don't visit Amiga.org because people that scam the Amiga community are exposed that's a personal decision of yours. If you post personal attacks they will be removed. Would I like to see Deron release products that customers paid for long ago. I absolutely would and it would be the right thing to do. I would be the first one to report positive news for Pagestream 5 Pro AmigaOS 4 & MorphOS if and when it ever comes. If threads like this put the much needed development fire under Deron's ass so much the better.

I think you guys invest too much of your life and money into "new Amiga" type software that isnt out yet.  Dont buy into the hype.  I used to be like that, waiting with baited breath on new software to come out until I just gave up.  Now if something comes out, good, if not, I dont care.  Saved me lots of frustration.
