Title: Noodle Cup Reviews
Post by: Turambar on July 12, 2005, 01:04:53 PM
Many of you have expressed a disliking for Pot Noodles over the years but wouldnt it be good to have the conveniance of a pot noodle combined with something that actually tastes good?

Yes? Then i give to you the Shin Cup!

(http://www.britsuperstore.com/acatalog/Nong_Shimmer_Shin_Cup_75g.jpg)

Basically noodles (good noodles not the crap you get in pot noodles) boiled in chilli sauce and almost guaranteed to make starfish wince. Theres some {bleep}ake mushroom and spring onion in there too but you can remove that before adding water (like you do with the peas in pot noodles). Remember to drink the sauce when you're finished the noodles for full effect.

Found in supermarkets beside the pot noodles. In some places.

Hum,
In this particular case one billion Chinese can sometimes all be wrong…

(anyway if you read the small writing it reads `Not for Human Consumption (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/blobrana/news/Nong_Shimmer_Shin_Cup_75g.jpg)`)

@NoFastMem

According to this (http://www.atkinsandpotts.com/prod_detail.php?pid=91&cat=11) page they are suitable for vegetarians.

@Blob

They are Korean does that make a difference? :P

On the subject of noodles, I find you can cook your own stir fry noodles pretty quickly in any case, and without the MSG etc. I bought some of those Amoy 'straight to wok' noodles the other day, haven't tried them yet.

That little bit of text says "Serving Suggestion" and looking at the picture on the front of the pot i can only assume that they suggest you serve something else.....

Don't start me off on 'serving suggestions' :lol:

Why the feck does anything edible have to come with a serving suggestion these days?

I mean I bought a multiseeded batch loaf (Mmmm!) the other day. The cover showed the bread, a few slices tipped over on a plate with some small shovels of grain...

Then I saw the "serving suggestion" text right there. I mean, for the love of God, is that necessary? I thought I'd use it to make some sandwiches, but no! Looking at some tipped over slices is a fecking way better idea!!

It really is taking the absolute p*ss. I remember once buying some frozen potato wedge things (you know basic keep in the freezer for emergency type gubbins) and on the cover was several cooked wedges falling off a baking tray to a plate. Again with this bloody pointless message!

No sh*t, Sherlock!? Damn, I thought I had to eat it frozen and still in the packet!

I've spent many a cold and lonely evening thinking this one over... I'm guessing it's so they can put a picture of some nice food on the package, and if you complain that the food in the package doesn't look anything like the picture on the front... they can just say... Oh, That's just a serving suggestion...

To be fair, I've always been irritated by the need food manufacturers seem to have to do this :-)

I think the sleep deprevation just galvanized the need to rant about it :lol:

Cheers NoFastMem, I've now got a stream of snot running down the LCD !

Which somehow gets me back on topic..
Warning to all Pot Noodle type people..
Avoid Asda's own brand curry flavour pots. Tastes like soggy paper, but with all the after effects of a strong curry/napalm mix. :shocked:

Good advice. Many among you may think Pot Noodles are the lowest of the low, even supermarkets own brand stuff cant be worse. You are dead wrong.

I have to admit to at one stage having a liking for Smart Price chicken & mushroom "flavour" pot noodles. The curry ones were definitely rank, though.

MMMMMMMMMMMmmmmm. Korean noodles. Those, my friends, are the bomb! The only kind I eat. I make a trip to Chinatown to get those. If you don't like spicy, then don't use the little package.

They're the best ramen-type noodles out there. Then again, I own a rice cooker, so I guess I'm asian by default.  :-P
