Yes we just started a new trend gents. Let this be the beginning of a new era ;-)
Curries & computers... Who'd have thought eh?.....
Anyway, I'm not one to write reviews so all I will say that it was a great night out. Putting faces to the regular Amiga.org visitor's names was nice.
Attendees included:
Karlos
MDMA
The_Leander
GadgetMaster
Fluffy McDeath ...All the way from canada :-o
A good time was had by all (Well at least that's the impression I got ;-) )
I hope everyone got home fine!
I'll leave the rest for others to contribute. (The trendsetters):-D
laters folks!

Aye, a cracking evening.
I wonder how many will "bomb the pot grotty" later?

Next time, I'm sure that my old mate Andy from H'pool would be up for it. In fact I can tell he's not going to be best pleased when he finds out we had curry without him :-)
-
He needn't worry, we can plan the next event here.
I wonder how much we can increase the attendance by for next time ..
I think someone should try to persuade The_Leander to post here again. (Even if it is just temporarily to report in this thread ;-) )

How about a curry night down south?

I wonder how Fluffy's will pictures turn out...

I feel fundamenally violated by the actions taken by these members of A.org... The very idea of an A.org "Event" happening without me is deplorable.
I haved added your nmes to my "special list". The necessary ations shall be performed at the appropriate time.

Special thanks on behalf of myself, Fluffy and Leander should be mentioned to Gadget and Karlos for refusing to let us pay anything towards the meal.
Thankyou very much guys! It was a great evening. :pint: (Of mango juice) ;-)

That's quite alright. After all, we didn't have to pay to get there, nor endure public transport, so it's only fair really.

Aye, but you indirectly (or maybe directly!) had to endure the dire provision of intercity public transport, due to there being none for me until 0620hrs! :-)

As an inhabitant of this city of drugs, whores and gambling, I can point out the various good spots. And for those willing to take their mountainbikes (*waves at PMC*), I can organise a trip to various trails. Nothing spectacular, but fun nonetheless.

So it's bikes all round then?

Cyberus wrote:
edit: BTW, I'm about to apply for a job in the Hague. Someone told me Den Haag is a boring place. Is this true?
Well, what to say. I was born there, and lived there for about 17 years. Den Haag is indeed not very exciting because of its history. Lots of government officials and well-to-do people live(d) there, so the city is much more stately than the other three big cities of the Netherlands. Amsterdam has its canals and ancient wharehouses; Rotterdam its skyline and pre-WW2 run-of-the-mill brick and mortar districts. Den Haag bears a vague resemblance to London in certain districts (but much, much smaller, of course), which is probably why I feel quite at home there too.
The city does not really have a place to go out to, as is the case in Rotterdam (Oude Haven) or Amsterdam (Rembrandtplein, Leidseplein). Well, I'm lying a little bit, the boulevard at the coast in Scheveningen is quite nice to visit, but that is not really Den Haag anymore. (Even so, Scheveningen was the place To Be And To Be Seen many decades ago. There's even a word for it in the local dialect: 'flaneren'.) The city is host to various international events (North Sea Jazz, City-Pier-City marathon) and of course boasts the regular selection of movie theatres, shopping areas and fine restaurants. Just don't expect them to be big and massive.
To be honest, if you're used to Really Big Cities, most of the cities in this country will strike you as boring. Fortunately for Den Haag, it is very close to other big cities, and public transport is cheap-ish as well as fairly trustworthy. Rotterdam takes 20 minutes, Amsterdam 45. With those numbers, I think it doesn't really matter if Den Haag itself is a little boring.
-
Cyberus wrote:
Or Groningen?

Someone told me Den Haag is a boring place. Is this true?
Groningen, Utrecht, Amsterdam and Maastricht are nice cities. The Hague is indeed rather boring.

@Cyberus
I've been to Den Haag a few times as my bro worked there until recently. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's boring, but it lacks a certain something in the nightlife department.
Otherwise it's a very pretty city (the building site that's Centraal Station notwithstanding).

Of course, I know you can't posibly be serious. If you were there would be plenty of :pissed: :pissed: coming from me.
Anyway, when I used to live in Mancy-land everyone there was a Northern lager-drinking poof.
(N.B. Not that there's anything wrong with homosexuality per se, it just works well in the pejorative)
It was marginally better in Yorkshire, but only just, there were lots of lager drinking neds in Leeds. (A city I love btw)
There are quite a few things I could say about the North of England ;-)
Many of them positive...
The women are more friendly (or scary, depending on the situation - they hunt in packs on Friday nights wearing mini-skirts, and in the middle of winter I might add!). Down here, everyone's about to disappear up their own arse. A girl couldn't possibly talk to a man first, they just sit there like {bleep}ing mutes until they get chatted up.
You also get less of that, spoilt middle class rich kid phenomenon up there. Pretensious {bleep}s who harp on about postmodernism and are usually humanities students wearing neckerchiefs and are as fickle as {bleep}.
You get Haddock as standard when you ask for Fish and Chips. Also, mushy peas are more common. Also, onion gravy, woohoo!
Everything's cheaper (inc. women ;-))
I'll neglect to mention the negative ones... :-)
-
mdma wrote:

I'll let you have your bit of fun. After all, you poor Northerners do spend 12 hours a day down the pits while we Southerners sit here getting fat off your hard work and reading the Hate Mail.

Hmm, yes and no.
'Curry' is a British term, and a very generic one.
Many curry dishes that we are familiar with are recent inventions. (Tikka Masala and Balti being the famous ones)
BUT, if I visit one of my fave restaurants in London, it sells authentic vegetarain food from Southern India, and tends to be visited by Indian ex-pats (as opposed to lager-swilling Brits).
My local Thai restaurant is run by Thai people who were born in Thailand, the chef's from Thailand, and it is supposed to very authentic (according to a mate who spent a year teaching in Thailand)
But you would still call all this 'curry', no?
I do take your point though. For example, as an aside, I heard that chow mein was invented in Frisco, not in China...

Dunno, is your street the ginger capital of the world? (the people who claim the ginger gene is dying are wrong, its just centralised in a small housing association in the Southside of Glasgow).
-
Dunno, is your street the ginger capital of the world?
Dunno but my house is 100% ghinger. :-)
Admittedly, only I live here. I wasn't always ginger either. I had blonde hair as a kid and used to slag ginger kids. Karma's a bugger, eh? I'll never forget the first time someone shouted "Hol, carrot boz!" I was about fourteen and when I realised they were referring to me I was devastated. I've managed to come to terms with this affliction over the years. :-D
My girlfriend is ginger too but "oot eh a boatle," rather than natural. Only an English girl would make herself deliberately ginger. ;-)
Southside of Glasgow
Sounds about right.

Hmmmm,
So to summarise we'll start with eating curry in the UK, which might or might not be an indigenous British dish, sniff some coke, swallow some pills and go north to visit some cheap women with haddock in miniskirts. Then we'll be in NL drinking champaign enjoying hookers while smoking some marihuana. To top it off we'll end up in Kansas gangbanging TPGs redheaded female friend Dorothy to make everyone's babies using bloodline's s0ck as a birthcontrol-measure while listening to Toto....
And all this while we are waiting for adz to send us tickets for Sydney.

Hey, I wasn't knocking anything. Just checking if I understood this thread right...

Hmmmm,
So to summarise we'll start with eating curry in the UK, which might or might not be an indigenous British dish, sniff some coke, swallow some pills and go north to visit some cheap women with haddock in miniskirts.
Twice a day...

Looks like I'm gonna need another job or two or three, I'll be broke after the first month at this rate :-D

I'm back from my travels and partly caught up with my life so it's time to log in and see what's up. And what's this? A thread formerly concerning curry? Verily (and some of those future events certainly sound like they are worth the airfare though I think it's much cheaper for me just to do the Kansas leg of the trip).
Oh yes, it was indeed a fine and delicious evening and I left with a full belly and ominous lower rumblings. Fortunately it was warm so I slept with the windows open.
It was a blast to meet the guys and I even got to look at GadgetMasters wonderous Frankentowered 1200 and had a gander at OS4.0 running on Karlos's PPC enhanced 1200 (Shhhhh). Nice.
There are pictures but they're still in Italy coz they're on the missus's iBook and that won't be back here till she is: around mid august.
Big thanks to Karlos and GadgetMaster for covering the cost of the tasties. Also to The_Leander and MDMA for letting me mooch their smokes.
Brilliant.

Also to The_Leander and MDMA for letting me mooch their smokes.
