Hey All,
Im from Sydney,Australia & just discovered my Amiga 1200 & 600 were collecting dust in my cabinet so I pulled them out & started with Sensible World of Soccer, what a game! 8-)
So I wanted to ask a simple question on my Amiga 1200 when it boots up it has a hard drive, I think it has anyway, how do I access it. I put my Workbench disk in & it went into like a desktop interface, though I wasnt sure how to run my games off
my hard drive instead. I thought that when I boot it up it automatically goes to the hard drive though it goes directly to an image to insert a disk?
:-?
If you can help me out that would be great!
Thanks

Hey, welcome to amiga.org :pint:
Good to see more Sydney-siders on here :-)
Your A1200 should boot straight into Workbench from the hard drive. If it goes to the 'insert disk' screen, well then either your hard drive is dead, or it needs to be formatted. Did you ever have the HD working? If you've got the Install disk from Workbench, boot it up from that and run the HDToolbox program, and see if it finds the hard drive. If it doesn't, either a cable has come unplugged, or your HD is dead. The 1200 and the 600 both use standard IDE 2.5 in hard drives, so you can get any old laptop HD and chuck it in (up to 4gb).
If that doesn't help, I could possibly come and help you set it up, I'm out near Penrith. Hope that helps.

A reminder:
It can also be that the HD isn't fully up to speed yet before the INSERT-DISK anim appears. If you have OS 3.0 you might have to reset again to actually see the HD. (Only once from a cold boot)

Thanks Darklight & Hellcoder for your time! :-D
I dont think I have a HD on my Amiga 1200 it must be on my 600 that I can remember cause I loaded up Workbench on my 1200 & there was no software that you mentioned Darklight.
Another basic question how do I re-boot my Amiga when I am playing a game or in Workbench etc?
Thanks guys!

Ctrl-LAmiga-RAmiga

i.e. The Ctrl and the two "A" keys, just for clarity.

It's funny cause when I do that it does re-boot though it just goes to this white screen & it keeps trying to access my hardrive (Even though I think I dont have one) cause my hard-drive light flash's & it just stays there....even if I put a floppy in the drive it still hangs there.
To play another game I re-boot my machine by turning it off from the power button. :-(
Any thoughts gentlemen?

most probably you have a dead harddrive or a dead ribbon cable. I think you should open the case and see what's going on inside. If there's no harddrive, check if all IC's are properly seated.
