A proposal for Hyperion and Genesis to join the forces.

So they can get shot at in Iraq?
In all seriousness, I think you're more likely to see pigs flying. It would be nice if it was practicable, but I'm sure lots of those involved have personal reasons that would preclude it.

If only it were that easy...
Ultimately, one of the two would have to give up on their OS (I cannot see merging the dev teams working). Hyperion wouldn't let AmigaOS stop development, that's for sure, and while I've no idea what the MOS devs would think I'd imagine that it would be similar. Hardware-wise there would probably be more luck (maybe even just joining forces to obtain higher quantities of PPC processors at lower prices) but there's simply too much mutual distrust for it to work IMO.
BTW it's Genesi - Genesis is a TCP/IP stack ;-)

According to Dr. Carol Marcus:
What exactly IS Genesis? Well, put
simply, Genesis is life from
lifelessness. It is a process
whereby the molecular structure is
reorganized at the sub-atomic level
into life generating matter of equal
mass. Stage One of our experiments
was conducted in the laboratory.
Stage Two of the series will be
attempted in a lifeless underground;
Stage Three will involve the process
on a planetary scale. It is our
intention to introduce the Genesis
device into a preselected space body,
a moon or other dead form.
:-D

Wow - I really must upgrade my A1200 to OS3.9 someday; that kinda feature would be cool - who says that AmigaOS isn't at the cutting edge

Be careful what you wish for. That feature is very unstable and short-lived, not to mention the rather nasty bugs it comes with.

I propose Hyperion open-source the OS4 HAL...let other people port that to other PPC platforms then they can compile an installation... Licensing fees for the hardware would be mute as the HAL was compiled by end-user.

an "indecent proposal", if you ask me!

Or barring that, they could just start buying boards from genesi.

Guys?
Don't get crazy here. As much as we'd like to put all the crap behind us, the reality is that after 5 years, legal wrangling, fraud, theft, and bungling, the damage is already done.

AmigaOS 4 and AmigaOne both feature the familiar brand so it's a lot easier to take to money men with a business plan. To say that the previous Amiga sold 6 million units would add credence to this.
MorphOS is still the wobbly fawn and it's almost like some sort of conspiracy to put the knife in and twist it just as the Amiga was about to be reborn.
Having said that, it hasn't been unknown for people to buy brands such as Amiga simply to kill them off and thus eliminate competition. EA do it all the time in the games industry.
Shame that Amiga Inc. never got big names behind them like Sun, Adobe, ATi etc. It's in their interests to have as many new platforms competing against the Wintel monopoly and using their hardware/software as possible.
Having read a lot on the other thread about the Japanese X68000 computer which is like an arcade Amiga style computer, I feel that the Amiga would have been best placed in Japanese hands long before Gateway got hold of it.
It would be a tremendous coup if the present owners of Amiga (any news here!?) could buy back the Commodore license so that the C=64 brand could be utilised, as well as buying all remaining patents and brands from Gateway (they kept some stuff didn't they?). I also think the AmigaOne should have had more than just a ROM checker for AmigaOS4. It should have had custom chips or at least sockets to implement them! Anyway, it's time for an Amiga TV-games joystick methinks (like the Sega, Atari VCS and Namco ones).

Blame the previous management of Amiga - AFAIK MOS was started before OS4 was announced.

I think it should definitely have a "proper" kickstart, however the days of a custom chipset are gone, I'm afraid. The closest you'll get is the integrated GFX and sound on the Micro-A1. Maybe if the Amiga was to become a console, but they'd never be able to rival people like ATI and NVidia.

Now that would be cool - only in a retro way, of course, but I'm sure I'd make a lot of money.

As far as I remmeber A Inc got the right to use and relicense those patents. As if they even knew what they were

While in dreamland I wish somebody makes an AAA-compatible 68090-based new amiga!
But does anybody belive that any of them will ever release their OSes for real Amiga with PPC(A1200s and A4000s with Blizzards and Cyberstorm PPC)?
Chance might be slightly better for OS4 as they seems to have run out of hardware.
But what I really want is a AROS tablet based on Freescales 8641D with PowerUP/Warp/MOS-emu for AROS!
